My Display Died!
« on: June 21, 2006, 08:23:35 am »
I have had my SL-C760 for about 3 years now. The other day, I turned it on and the display appears to be dead. It displays a solid white screen. It still works, and I can launch programs blind by using the keylauncher commands, and it does still beep when I use the stylus. It appears as if something hardware-related broke rendering the display inoperable.
I have tried everything, including trying to call up the diagnostics menu, but even the diagnostics screen appears as all white with no text. If I could, I would try to re-flash it, but I'm not sure I can do this blind. Moreover, I think this is clearly a hardware (not software) malfunction. Does this mean my Zaurus is dead?

It at least means you will have to pull it apart to check the cables. I would start with the main body rather than the screen because it is easier. The screen connecitons are above the battery box (with the hinge at the top).

How about a hard reset with full power out (ac and batt out for a few minutes) ?

Incidentally, I was installing a theme for my Aki yesternight and I had this white screen as well ... *gasp* ... removing the batt without ac connected fixed it, though I have no idea of the cause.

Yes. I tried the hard reset--took out the battery and disconnected the AC. I still have the white screen after I power on. After a minute, I hear the beep when it launches qpe, but the screen is still solid white.
I'm going to try opening it up and look inside to see if I can find where the display connector is located...

I fixed it! I opened the display panel, turned on the power, and wiggled the display connectors (the paper-thin wires that run across the back of the display). Once the display returned, I pressed them down and replaced the display panel. I hope it doesn't go out again, but for the moment it is working again.
Thanks for the suggestion to try checking the display connector. I probably would have hesistated before opening the display panel, but it was a rather simple operation.
