The Hentges ROM has several apps configured & pre-installed that perhaps the vanilla OZ ROM doesn't & it might have a few kernel tweaks too, which is why you should get the kernel from the hentges site rather than the OZ site.  The Hentges feed should work if you have a working usbnet or wifi card.
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

So far I get less aplications (PIM package manager, text editor, etc) in comparison with OZ one. I noticed the ability to move the root which I apreciate. How do I get more packages? Should I use ipk command?

I'm a bit lost

You didn't read the [a href=\"http://www.hentges.net/misc/openzaurus/docs/cardfs_howto.shtml]CardFS HowTo

On the other hand, I don't understand how to patch the kernel. Should I recomplie it?
I've been in http://www.hentges.net/misc/mhkernel.html and it links me to kernel.org!!

If you can dnload the apps to a CF card, then put the CF card into your Z.

Then, once it's automounted do this:

Open up the konsole & type:

cd /media/cf

ipkg -d sd install name_of_file.ipk

& then, once it's finished, type this:

ipkg-link add name_of_file

(without the .ipk extension).

Umm, you should install the correct kernel for your needs.  I tend to use the 64-0 kernels so I have complete control.

For example, you could dnload:

[a href=\"http://oz.hentges.net/releases/3.5.4.1/T1/collie/kernel/zImage-collie-64-0-20060620045455.bin]http://oz.hentges.net/releases/3.5.4.1/T1/...60620045455.bin

& then:
http://oz.hentges.net/releases/3.5.4.1/T1/...ollie_T1.tar.gz

rename them as per instructions

&, as CoreDump has said, RTFM wrt CardFS howto.

When you've done & read all that, put the renamed files onto yourCF card, rflash, & you'll find *lots* of goodies on your Zaurus.

I thought the same thing a while back, but then realized that if $1 required any dependencies they wouldn't get linked until someone did it manually or ipkg-link mount /media/card/packages was run.

Since I wasn't able to find a nice media player for gpe I descided to give a chance to OPIE but I'm still having some problems. I downloaded  /zImage-collie-64-0-20060620045455.bin and I'm still havinga kernell version mismatch while booting.

You need:

[a href=\"http://hentges.net/tmp/do_not_use/spitz/tarballs/hentges-opie-image-spitz_T2-RC1-3.5.4.1-rc4-spitz.rootfs.tar.gz]http://hentges.net/tmp/do_not_use/spitz/ta...z.rootfs.tar.gz

&

http://hentges.net/tmp/do_not_use/spitz/ke...60620034250.bin

plus the gnu-tar & updater.sh scripts & obviously, rename the above hentges files according to the flash instructions.  Not sure what to suggest if that all doesn't work.

Just curious. Not sure if I should post this here as part of this thread, as a new thread in this forum or a new thread in the GPE forum, so if this isn't right, someone say please.

I'm playing with the GPE variant of this ROM and it's closer to what I've wanted on the Z than most other ROMs so am really keen to give it a fair trial.

I've come across the following problems, issues, which I'm hoping to resolve so I can carry on with this. If anyone can help, I'd so appreciate it!

1) Abiword loads up with purple mixed into the background/ruler bar. Now this isn't a problem,  , but it is ugly and I've no clue how to fix it.

2) The keymap isn't quite how I'm used to. I rather like the sticky shift and function keys that the Sharp Rom has. Is there a way to alter the GPE keymap to allow this?

3) I can't find Alt anywhere, which is making application based menu navigation a bit tricky. Anyone know where this is?

4) I have a fat CF, a fat32 CF and a ext2 SD but neither abiword nor gnumeric will write to these. I get access denied all the time. The cards are correctly mounted, as these apps can read files from them, but they can't write any changes back.

5) When opened from the icon, the pdf viewer continues to crash when you try and open any pdf. If gpdf is launched from the terminal, it opens the pdfs fine. This isn't that big a deal, but it's weird that it happens. Supplemental to this, is there a way to get the pdf viewer to scroll onto the next page rather than just scroll to the end of the current page and then need you to tap the button to move it onto the next page? I'd love continuous scrolling, like in acrobat. Should I be using a different pdf app within GPE for this?

6) I want to import date to / export data from the address book. Where is the information held and is it possible to import data into it so I don't have to type everything in again manually.

7) Beyond NAND backups, is there a way to backup the GPE PIMs? Ideally I'd like to export the data from the address book and calendar to another format and have the backups readable by another machine should I ever break my Z. I'm very conscious about losing data.

Thanks!!
Zaurus C-1000

hmmm .... good point!  ... maybe I should go look at the ipkg code altogether ... afterall, it should be a matter of iterating through the files that are installed, and ipkg-linking them if they are on external media.

Yeah, that looks rather ugly   . IIRC someone fixed that in .dev, will have a look.

2) The keymap isn't quite how I'm used to. I rather like the sticky shift and function keys that the Sharp Rom has. Is there a way to alter the GPE keymap to allow this?

The "sticky" keys are actually a driver hack from Sharp in kernel 2.4. The keys aren't configured to be sticky in userspace. I implemented sticky keys for Poodle 2.6 and I can tell you that it's more trouble than it's probably worth it. You should see Poodles xmodmap and the changes to Opie to make it work with sticky keys...

Until someone reworks the 2.6 kbd driver for sticky keys, I don't see that coming to SL-Cxx00 anytime soon, sorry.

3) I can't find Alt anywhere, which is making application based menu navigation a bit tricky. Anyone know where this is?

Alt should be the japanese key to the left of "Ctrl" but by the looks of it that doesn't work in X. Will have a look.

That sounds like a permission problem to me. Make sure your user has rw access to the folder.

Could you add that to the OE bugtracker please?
And mention that your system is OZ 3.5.4.1, not hentges-something.

6) I want to import date to / export data from the address book. Where is the information held and is it possible to import data into it so I don't have to type everything in again manually.

I'm not much into PIM, so I have no idea how well import / export works, sorry.

The files are most-likely in ~/.gpe somewhere.
