Hi jose-vi

I have just got a Nokia 6235 and it works fine with the exact same infrared settings as my old 6385 (as found elsewhere in this forum). Notes:

- Make sure that you use the correct init string (mine is "AT +crm=1;+cso=33"). If this is wrong it will always disconnect immediately.
- You need to use the patched pppdialer in the other topic (and the compat lib) otherwise your password will always be wrong, and pppd from the command line doesn't seem to work alone.

Unfortunately I found some info that says you can only use the N gage as a modem over bluetooth, not infrared. So you might be stuck with the cable if you don't have bluetooth on your Zaurus. The points above still apply for any connection method.

As for USB, my research says that the 'acm' module should allow it to act as a normal USB modem. I have a cable for my 6235 that works fine with my laptop (kernel 2.6), but not with the Zaurus. The Zaurus recognises the device but won't bind the driver to it as yet. I suspect this is just because of the old kernel - will let you know when I get it sorted.

What are the last few lines of 'dmesg' immediately after plugging in your phone with the USB cable?

Karl

PS - *please* only ask questions in one place! If another topic has possibly related information, refer or link to it in your new topic, rather than asking the question again. This way you will get better answers too

Hell Karl
I think this is a more difficult for me. Previously I used my phone to internet gprs, a poor intenet experience. An this comads that you told me are to me a strange comands or line of text that I do not know where to place it. I am a person that to learn this need a lot of dedicatión, I never try to connect anything to internet (I use internet in cyber or at work, where the connexion exist before).
I have seen 3 icons:
ppp dealer
ppp moden
lan/wifi
the last one have a box where I tick the box where it shows network (not wifi), but no not know what I need to made.
In ppp modem or ppp dealer appears a lot of boxes where I neeed to write numbers and others thing, bat I do not know this. I readed others topics about it but this sound to me as if it were chinese laguaje (a strange languaje) that I do not know how to use.
I am sorry for this.
But when I make one thing right I mecome master in it in few time.
Again: I am sorry to be a new in this of zaurus and internet configuration, this is harder than I.
I wish wou be patien with me.
Thanks you

The miniusb cable bundled with N-gage is for usb mass storage. It lets your n-gage work as a card-reader for the inserted mmc card. You can't dial-up through the cable. I've succesfully connected to the internet through a bluetooth connection to an n-gage.

Btw, there is no irda on the n-gage(not on the standard, nor on qd).

Hi jose-vi

Sounds like you have a couple of options:

1- get bluetooth for your Zaurus
2- get the correct USB cable for your Nokia (not sure if this will work with Zaurus still though)
3- use infrared with your Sharp / Samsung? phone

I would vote for #3 - see the other thread you mentioned and get the working pppdialer etc as I noted above. Should be the easiest and cheapest option

Hello Karl

I have studied my n gage and there do not appear nothing about Irda.
Later I studied my Z 300 sharp and about Irda (that appears) only have the option to connec and disconec, and in multimedia gives the option to send archives or receibe by Irda, but activating it my zaurus (sl c1000 with pdaxrom beta3) do not connect even this is the same in z300. This is a mystery for my.
In bluetooth menu of z300 talk about free hand and car free hand, derial port and dialing:

Serial port:
"The bluetooth device remote work as virtual serial port"

Dialing:
"The bluetooth device remote allows the acces to internet with a telephonic modem"
Reading this I thing that I need a Bluetooth Or with a usb cable it will work?
Later I readed your previous messenger:
I need a patched ppdaler and a library packed? Where are these?
And what is 'acm module' is an ipk file?
I can connec my z300 using my usb cable? (do not appers this in its menu....
to connect to internet I need a modem??
And the last what is 'dmesg' and where is? and how to handle it?
Thanks

Hi jose-vi

[a href=\"https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=15693]Compact lib here[/url]

pppdialer here

Yes, you need bluetooth on your Zaurus to use it. It is sort of like an IR port, only it uses radio instead (so you need one on both ends).

To set up an irda connection with your Z300, open 'PPP config' and under the modem tab, set the device to '/dev/ircomm0'. You'll also need the files above, and see the second link for more info. I don't think this will work with the N-Gage.

ACM is a kernel module (basically a USB modem driver) that you will already have installed (not an IPK). It should load automatically when you plug in a USB modem (such as a compatible phone). I don't think this will work with the N-Gage either, unless it is possible to get a different cable that makes it work.

'dmesg' is a command line tool that shows some info on what is happening on your system. Do this:
1 - open a terminal
2 - plug in the USB cable with the phone attached at the other end
3 - type 'dmesg' and press enter
4 - the last few lines should show something about USB; post them here

Anyway, at this stage I think your best bet is probably to use infrared with the Z300. See how you go with that.

Hello Karl
I readed you instrucctions, and I found that my z300 cant comunicate with zaurus, via Irda, but it can with my mother sony ericson z520i
Then I will try to connect zaurus with z520i (with it I can send and receibe files)
I do not know what numbers I have to write in the box inside of:
USB, lan wifi, ppp modem.
I do not know which tick to mark (auto, manually...)
I do not know the number to write in ip, dns, getway, and I try to write in init string, I tried : AT+crm=1;33, but it do not work
Even I bought a usb adsl modem, to connect it to my zaurus by usb connector, using al that, but it do not work.
Possible I need this files, I will try again.
To summarize I have I Zaurus with pdaxrom beta3,  a sony ericson z520i (can send and receibe files from zaurus by Irda) (z300 sharp can not connect by Irda with zaurus)
I do not have cf bluetooth, I have a Adl wifi usb (no drivers for linux in my hands)
And I need to learn how to fill the boxes in sub (serial port or network), lan-wifi (the numbers to write:ip, dns, phone number, users....)
(Is possible to connect to internet by usb modem (trade mark: telefónica)

Thanks very much you for your help`, but I still need your help.

OK, here are my settings:

Code: [Select]
Account tab
-------------

Name: (whatever you like to call it - mine is 'Telecom')
Username / password: (provided for you by ISP)
Phone: (provided by ISP)
Make connect via: IrDA

Modem tab
-------------

Device: /dev/ircomm0
Init string: at+crm=1;+cso=33 (note: this is for Nokia, the Ericsson may need different settings)
Speed: 115200
Hardware flow control ticked
Time out: 1 sec
Demand dialing: manual connect and disconnect
Idle timeout: 120 seconds

Network tab
--------------

Auto-detect routing ticked
Auto-detect name servers ticked

As for the ADSL modem, you probably need newer Linux drivers (newer kernel), which is not so easy with pdaXrom. Maybe this will work with beta4 or later versions when they are stable enough for general use.

In order to find out more about any of your USB connections, you need to get the dmesg output as described above.

Hello Karl
I do not unsderstand ISP (provided for you by ISP)- Isp what is the meaning of this?
And about init string:
you use the correct init string (mine is "AT +crm=1;+cso=33")
But How I can find my correct init string? Have to try  to take the correct?
This will be hasder that win a lotery (to know the future), there any way to reveal this ?
Later I try to install the libstdcxx5-compat_5.0.7_armv5tel.ipk
But it fails, I configura setting in package manager, (log shows: install fails)
I created a correct way of access. (I will tray later again)
Then Talking about my N gage If I use a host cable (host cable of Zaurus-which I use to conect hdd and kayboards to zaurus) it will made it works?

Reemembering:

About Ip Dns and Gateway this numbers will appear misteriously they ) or I have to type anyone?
I see 3 possible way for me:
-Irda with z520 sony ericson (need make work init string, lib compac, and to know correct int string-this last one a mistery for my)
-Usb with my n gage by usb cabale and a misteryous program ('acm' module that a can not find, and I do not konw if it works in pdaxrom  beta 3)
(I do not know if it is related to wlang-nf ?)
-Usb with a usb modem (but I do not know which will work and how to configure.

Thanks you, I appreciate your work helping me.

ISP = 'Internet Service Provider' (if you use your phone as a modem, you need to connect to another modem at the other end where someone provides you with Internet access). This is who you pay to get on the Internet.

It is specific to the phone/modem. Try it with just 'AT' and see if it works. If not, look in the manual, or use google to search for what the string should be for the specific make and model phone/modem.

That's strange - does it say why it fails?

From what others have said I don't think so - you need both the host cable for the Zaurus (which you must already be using), and a modem cable for the N Gage (which I'm not sure exists).

Quote

They will appear mysteriously - your ISP provides them automatically.

Option 1 seems like the best bet at present. I don't know if you can get a cable for option 2, or if the N Gage actually supports it. Option 3 could work if you want to spend money, but you would have to search around here to see what modems work. Don't worry about acm - it will sort itself out. wlan-ng stuff is for wireless and is unrelated.

Hello Karl
I tolk to Amena (my phone company)
They said me:
my Username is: CLIENTE
my Password: AMENA
Phone:*99# ( or if this don´t work try with *99***1#)
init string: +cgdcont=1,"IP","internet"
and said that they give suport for windows system (not garanty for linux)
And addend that I must phone to sony Ericson  to download the drivers.
¿this is necessary? (this drivers for Zaurus slc 1000)
But there other problem:
Y tried this but at Irda box, I ticked it, in Device appears:
/dev/ircomm0
Then when I try to connect it says that don't exist this device.
I trys blyetooth and says:
/dev/frcomm0
Then when I try to connect it says that don't exist this device.
Then I seek inside and don't appears ircomm0, but i found ircomm
Y changed to:
/dev/ircomm
and go, but says:
using ppp0
ip is....
dns is....
but don't work dillo, or other programs related to internet.
then power off my phone and zaurus says the same. Then this is because of Zaurus don't uses the phone.
I loaded the library: libstdcxx5-compat_5.0.7_armv5tel.ipk
and pppdialer patched
What is the problem now.
Thanks for yous help.

OK, now we are getting somewhere. You are probably better getting the init string from Ericcson because it's their phone (and you always need 'AT ' before it). The user name and password will certainly help though!

and pppdialer patched
Does the phone ever indicate that it is communicating with the Zaurus, or does it do nothing?
