Some Assistance
« on: August 04, 2006, 06:35:24 pm »
Hey everyone.

First off I'm super excited that I finally have a SL-C3200. I've been watching the prices on Ebay and finally got one fairly cheap.

Anyways. I quickly flashed it to pdaxrom beta3.

Just trying to get some packages installed I'm having the following.

When I select my location to store it shows all my partitions but says that /mnt/ide3 only has 270mb free. But a df -h shows 4.3g free.

--------

So putting that aside I just wanted to see how well videos play so I installed xmmsplayer through the GUI package manager to /mnt/ide3 and avi's work but quite choppy at best, and wmv's are not even watchable.

Is there some optomizations I can do? or a recomended player that will work better?

And last (but definately not least) is there a zoom in / out option like in Cacko?

Please forgive me if this post is in the wrong section.

are you using the bvdd option? because with out that it like running Half-Life in Software Mode... :-)

I dont remember how you set up the different option you would like to use in XMMS with the mplayer plugin but you would be better off launching from the shell... outside of matchbox...

Yeah this made a big difference. I saw somewhere a full string of options to use but I can't find it now. I'll keep looking

This also helped improve the performance.

What about my other questions? Any suggestions on the storage and zoom?

And does the root partition need to be just 50mb? Can it be the whole 128mb flash?

This Thread may help you out with the zoom and alternate mplayer options...

With the storage issue... I have no clue... well...

Post your ipkg.conf

do a
Code: [Select]
cat /etc/ipkg.conf
If maybe configured to look at something wrong...

Anyone else have this issue with there 3200?

That page was helpfull.

Here is my df and ipkg.conf

dest cf /mnt/cf
dest sd /mnt/card

dest user /mnt/user
dest ide /mnt/ide
dest ide2 /mnt/ide2
dest ide3 /mnt/ide3
dest usbstorage /mnt/usbstorage
dest tmpinst /home/tmp/ipkg/inst

Everything looks fine.

Also I don't know if its a problem but I decided to run the patch program to utilize the rest of the flash card for a 121mb root partition.

I just checked and my /mnt/ide3 is formated to vfat. Do you think this would cause the incorrect free space in package manager?

YES YES YES... if you are trying to install stuff to a vfat partition... it will not happen... I dont know how it came up with the # is did... Maybe when it noticed it was vfat it bumped it self the next closest partition... but no... it will not work..

So quick question then

is it safe to just run fdisk and blow that vfat away and set it to ext3?

Obviously all my data will be lost. Will that require me to flash it again?

I saw the instructions on how to fdisk your sd / cf card but nothing mentioned about one of the hda partitions.

Basically I'm trying to be safe so I don't turn my new Z into a new paper weight.

Cool all done

But it still does not show the right free space  It now shows 1328mb instead of the 5.3gigs free

I don't know too much about different FS's but I formated it to ext3. Not sure if ext2 is the more aproperate fs. Please let me know.

ext2 is what normal people use with flash drive because to uses less write cycles....

but since you are using a microdrive your fine...

But change drive fs format isnt going to make a difference... I just waiting to see if anyone else out there if having this same issue...

True it doesn't seem that FS makes much difference on the package manager's information.

But it does allow me to install packages onto that partition and have them function unlike before

Now I'm gonna try and figure out XFCE... wish me luck

i was having a similar problem with my free space, the only solution that work for me was:
1. use fdisk to see the blocks in the partition with the problem.
2. use mkfs.vfat -F 32 /dev/hda3 blocks
i used vfat because i use this partition like a mass storage device.

[trisoft.de has good info on zauarus microdrive geometry. iirc it is somewhere with the nand restore stuff.

I'd had a similar geometry problem......
