Increase Gui Contrast

Hello,

one thing which QTopia ROM did better than pdaXrom was the contrast of the GUI.
GTK dialogs in pdaXrom often have a grey background with a black thin font.
I'd like to increase redability by making the background white and the font maybe bold.

Is this possible?
How?

DO you know where I find a documentation for the .gtkrc file?
Even on the GTK+ homepage I didn't find anything about it.
I only found a collection of themes, which may also be a solution, if there is a high-contrast theme...
will look into that, too.

Hi,

You can also download and try out many other GTK+ themes, some of which
are very high contrast, and some even have those words in their name, such as
HighContrastLargePrint.

I use the switch2 program on my LINUX boxes (including the Z) to change the
theme on the fly, depending on how tired my eyes are.  I know there's a post
in the forum, but I can't remember if I had to compile it, or if there was an IPK.

In any case, I prefer the H2O-gtk2-Ruby, but I don't like the way the checkboxes
have the check in them, even if not selected.  Selection is indicated by the ruby
colored highlighting.  One of these days I should open the check1.png file in
that theme, and change it, that's how simple it is.

OK, I just edited out the check mark in the "unselected" check, and it looks
much better (to me anyway).  Below is the modified check1.png, which can
be used to replace the original one.  Enjoy!

Hi miskinis,

I have done that now, using switch2, works beautifully!
However, after installing the H20 themes and choosing one of them, now the general font size of menues etc. is very small!
Even choosing another fint and size behind the "+" in the switch2 GUI dialog didn't help.

So two questions:

* How to restore the font size I had before (don't know what font and size it was)
* Where are the themes installed, so I can modify/replace the single image files?

Ah, could answer question no 2 myself: ~/.themes.
I just checked ~/.gtkrc and it is now empty and includes two other files: The ktgrc in the theme dir and a ~/.gtkrc.mine.

Unfortunately, my old .gtkrc is gone now (well, in a NAND backup, so not lost, but I'd like to avoid this restore process).

Could someone who has not installed a GTK theme yet (so has the old font and font size) please post his .gtkrc?

That way I could create a .gtkrc.mine and restore my fonts.

Well, now I sent through the process of restoring the last NAND backup in order to get the original .gtkrc-2.0 file.
It only contained the line:

Code: [Select]

gtk-font-name = "Verdana 14"
and that did the trick:

Code: [Select]

cp .gtkrc-2.0 .gtkrc-2.0.mine
then install the theme.
The new .gtkrc-2.0 will include the .mine file and thus the Verdana14 font is used globally again.

Now I have to find a good theme.
I downloaded several themes but switch2 complains about almost all of them that they are not valid theme tarballs.
Probably dumb IE ungzipped them on downlad, at least it renamed them as .tar.tar instead of .tar.gz.
Is there a way to tell IE not to do such things??

Will report here once I have found a good theme for better readability on Zaurus!

..still evaluating themes.
However, on the Internet I found many guides how to install themes, but none describing how to UNINSTALL them!
SSimply deleting the directory under /.themes deletes the files and frees the space of course, but in the switch2 GUI-based utility the installed and deleted themes are still listed. So there must be another location where info about installed themes must be stored. But where?

If you are still looking for a nice visual theme, I have compiled the Clearlooks engine for pdaXrom.  Included with the ipk are four themes, and all the blue ones have good visibility, IMO.

Check the link above for the ipk.  Other themes based on the Clearlooks engine can easily be installed and used by extracting them to the /usr/share/themes directory and using switch2 to apply them.
