GPRS/Audiovox works on X11 ROM

I just tested GPRS on X11 ROM, and it works great. Just update /etc/pcmcia/serial.opts with serial opts=\"uaert 16550A\" and upload serial_cs.o.

If anyone using GPRS and need more details, just ask. But the old how-to should work in the same way with the x11 rom.

I can\'t get my Eagletec GSM/GPRS card working with pdaX 1.0. It worked perfectly with X11 and even with pdaX 0.91. Now it connects but after PAP authentication it says \"\'LCP terminated by peer\" and \"Discarded non-LCP packet when LCP not open\". After that it disconnects. I tried to correct serial.opts, but at boot-up it reported uaert as \"unknown flag\". I don\'t know what to do...

If anyone gets a chance i\'m curious how long a hard to load page like washingtonpost.com using GPRS and whatever browser is fastest on x11

Those hard-to-load pages take a lot of time to download, up to several minutes, with few reloads.  Some say Firefox is slow, but I should admit that it downloads pages quite a bit faster than Konqueror does. It also has a lot of useful options (Konqueror even can\'t save files or change the page encoding!), so, till I reflashed my C760 to pdaX 1.0, I used Firefox.

P.S. The only (but VERY seirious) disadvantage of Firefox is that it\'s unable to turn off images and flash (I haven\'t found such an option). If this option exists, Firefox will be even faster. For now, it\'s approx. 1.5-2 times slower than landline 33.6 connection, but I know it\'s due to cell overload.

I just got my Audiovox RTM8000 running under pdaX 1.0 this morning.. unfortunately I found this thread -after- I\'d spent a bit working on it... I\'m using TMobile for service and downloaded the GPRS patch from the old how-to; removed the bits about user names and passwords and moved the scripts to /etc/ppp/peers.   the pppdealer works great with the gprs script that comes in the tar.gz as the disconnect option is then available as well.

I\'m running a C700 with a 1gb compact flash(not a microdrive).  I installed firefox to it but even the load time is to prohibitive for any sort of practical use... any suggestions?

use dillo xft.  It\'s quite usable, some sites won\'t work but most do.

dillo is also amazingly fast with scrolling (large images) etc.  If dillo just had a scaling menu like opera ... it would be amazing.

Will try dillo next day. BTW, got this card working.  Since I hadn\'t been able to dial (and refill my account) from Zaurus, I just ran out of money. :oops: Can anyone recommend a good dialer for pdaX? Or anyone just uses Minicom?

Tried Dillo. Yes, it\'s amazingly fast, and working on GPRS modem with Dillo is a real pleasure.  The only (and very serious) disadvantage of Dillo is that I can\'t change the document encoding. So I\'m going to remove it...

I have a C700 with the expanded Battery and I get roughly 4 to 4.5 hours with the Audiovox under pdaX.  This is definately bonus compared to the 1.2 hours I get out of my Linksys WCF12 card.

I\'d have to agree.. I installed it and enjoyed it and then removed it for a more full featured browser(sort of).  So, if anyone knows how to cross compile opera I\'m an eager customer.  Or if there\'s a good resource for how to use the pdaXrom cross compile environment I\'d be happy to do it myself.

I have a C860 running pdaX RC9 with an Audiovox RTM8000.  I get roughly 4.5 hours as stated above.
That's constant use in GPRS mode and with the screen brightness turned down relatively far.
