Bluetooth Tethering With Zaurus?
« Reply #15 on: October 03, 2006, 01:32:59 pm »
I doubt it.  Iit only happens on graphic intensive sites and I'm pretty sure it happens with wifi too.  Other sites like cnn work fine.  I'm more inclined to think it is too many files being cached and the Z memory/swap can't handle it.

I would never use it to download an iso of the latest linux distro or RDP through a VPN.  It's just not fast enough.

For email, IM, web surfing, ftping of the latest IPK or ssh, it does the job.

Is that somehow a result of the bluetooth connection?

Why not?  Is it crippled in some way?  I was hoping it would work just like a normal internet connection so that I could use it anywhere I go.

Has anyone set up their zaurus to dial out through a bluetooth phone to access the internet?  I did it with my pc and would really love to do it with my zaurus.

If you don't fancy fiddling with the config files and want a GUI to do it for you, try our Bluefig software here:
[a href=\"http://www.figlabs.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/54]http://www.figlabs.com/catalog/product_inf.../products_id/54[/url]

For a GPRS connection, your network will almost certainly be the bottleneck. For 3G, depending on how good your connection is, you may find that the Bluetooth link starts becoming the bottleneck - 30-40 Kbytes per second is about the limit, but still rather good for web surfing.

Opera and netfront seem to be more of the problem as they sometimes crash on very graphical sites.

Is that somehow a result of the bluetooth connection?

On the other hand this should never be considered a primary internet connection.

Mines do not crash at all, i am using the memory applet i sent you xam!!  He most likely looses memory and it crashes.

if you guys are having problems with your bluetooth, PM me because i modifed a few to get it working on my zaurus 3200.

I am using the sharprom, meanies bluetooth 1.23-1 does not work for me at all.  It identifies the phone but fails to log into it.  I havent messeged meanie but that was my problem with that one.  The cacko rom seemed to work fine for me...i think i cant remember for the life of me but reason i went back to sharprom was instability issues.

meanie gaved me a hint as to where to fix the problem and i managed to slap a ipk which works great.

if you guys have problems, just pm me and ill help out.  its really easy.

Finally got the sprint katana phone and the ambicom bluetooth with the little tooth surfing away from the pc.  I can pair with the Z and run obex commands however when trying to run the DUN with the network app it sees the phone and starts to use as a modem however just dies.  I doulble check username and pass and even reset it through sprints site.  Is there a way to see logs or kick off the dial up networking from the console?  Would it be a dund command?  I can't figure out what I'm missing or where to look at.

[Acct info]
username and pass:  Tried set and not set.... tried full "username"@sprintpcs.com  and just "username"

Phone # : #777 (sprint)

[Modem]
default

[Network]
tried Windows PP compatible script ticked and unticked.
everything else ticked

[Proxies]
default

[Bluetooth]
recognizes bt address and sets right channel for dial up networking.

A sdptool browse shows this

Service Name: Dial-up Networking
Service RecHandle: 0x10002
Service Class ID List:
  "Dialup Networking" (0x1103)
Protocol Descriptor List:

  encoding:    0x6a
  base_offset: 0x100

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Just to follow-up on this.  All my settings were correct with my Z.  It turns out that Sprint needed to enable a service for my phone which was "Phone as a Modem."  This cost somewhere in the range of $30 a month however now I have the internet anywhere I get a phone signal.  Business wise this allows me to service clients on the fly and edit myspace quickly

So Rob, by your website, it looks like you don't sell BlueFig anymore. Is this correct? It looks like good software...
