Well, if it ain't running Qtopia, it ain't a Zaurus, full stop.

At least if it isn't open in some way like Qtopia and instead is some propreitary platform again, then I cant call it a Zaurus, can I ?

To me it looks like they had a lot of the Zaurus casings and the whole case manufacturing units lying around, so they just used that to make an attractive dictionary.

It is not even called a Zaurus by Sharp.

He was specifically meaning this new Sharp device, which looks very much like a Zaurus, but does not ship with Qtopia, hence it is not a Zaurus. All those Zaurus devices on your desk came out of the factory with Qtopia installed, which I am sure you are aware. So, if it wasn't for Qtopia, they probably wouldn't be on your desk in the first place.

Hm. I think I have to drop some gas into the fire...

Approx. 10 years ago i did have a Sharp Zaurus something (I don't really remember the name and do not longer have it) with a b&w display, keyboard and a PCMCIA (not CF!) slot.

Ah, here is a spec: http://www.pdastreet.com/hardware/Sharp-Za...treet-pdas.html

And it was a Zaurus because Sharp did call it so, although it did have neither Qtopia nor Linux.

Come-on guys you are trying to split hairs over a simple matter - you know very well we are talking about the new Sharp device and we here at OESF forums know a Zaurus for the Zaurus with Qtopia (factory installed - in case the Opie guys get all linguistic over my definition) - not the Zaurus with Sharp's proprietary platform as it was before - the MI series or whatever it was called. And yeah, I know Sharp called it a Zaurus too.

But to us OESF members a Zaurus is what we VERY WELL know it to be - so come-on lets end this terminology war and just recognise that the new device is NOT a Zaurus.

I guess the dissapointment that its not a new "Zaurus" after all, is telling, hence all this hair plitting over nothing.

It is a bit disappointing that this is not the next gen Zaurus.  How similar are the Japanese and Korean consumers?  I hope this is a sign of things to come (integrated camera, wifi, gps, toothpick holder).

It seems that the low-end pda market has been consumed by the smart phone and the high-end pda market is going the way of gps or pvp.  So how about a Zaurus with integrated wifi, gps and pvp capabilities.

For the qtopia and our current z's, I did see some hints of a camera and more gps integration.  Not sure if the c-3300 will have any of these features.  From the picture, all I see is an added camera, and one sd slot, and a far thinner zaurus, stereo speakers, probably a mic.  We have microdrives and sd and a far bulkier Zaurus.

If they were a bit smarter, maybee a swivle camera at one side of the lid for webcam?  eh?  hows that!

3.5" LCD ... guess its not interesting ... my Akita has a 3.8" (or 3.7") LCD and I'm hoping SHARP releases a 4.0" or 4.5" LCD Zaurus.

Naye, not quite making it ...

Considering the amount of stuff that Nokia managed to plan to put into their newly announced N95 I'm sure there's plenty of room inside the current Z casings for a lot more goodies, or plenty of scope to reduce the bulk. Heck, even the screen of the Z is nearly as thick as the new Samsung slim phones
