A Couple Of Questions
« on: October 16, 2006, 08:30:52 pm »
I have pdaXrom beta1 installed on an SL-C750, and I was wondering if there is a web browser that is somewhere between Dillo and Firefox. Dillo renders pages oddly, and Firefox is way to heavy for my needs. Any suggestions?

Also, I have a EXT2-formatted microdrive that will not unmount.I have some programs and libraries installed on it, and I'm assuming that they have something to do with it. It doesn't mater when I plug it in, or if I even do anything with it. I always get the busy error. Can this be fixed?

Thanks.

Ican help with the browser query- try konqueror, imo it is half way between dillo & firefox - pages look better and css works - still not perfect but tons better than dillo. I still use dillo wherever possible (like right now) as the key mappings are nice and its way light.. But then I use links a lot too but has even worse page rendering.

Get Konqueror from Johns little zaurus page, I don't think it's in any feeds (why not?)

there are two possibilities I can think off. You have a terminal session where you have changed directory to somewhere on the cf and thus it has a open file handle and can't be unmounted. or you have installed some libraries which are loaded into memory and thus are holding a reference to the cf. you can use the lsof command to check which files are open and being used.

Konq-embedded works great! Thanks for pointing me to it! I have decided that I will just uninstall all of the libs off of the Microdrive and start over to try to determine the one that's screwing it up.

I also have another question. Is there a good search tool for pdaXrom? It would be nice to be able to search for files or folders.

Thanks!

You could install the locate package, then run updatedb.sh to scan your filesystem. Then you can use the locate command to find files

Is there something that just searches and doesn't have a database? I move files around with some frequency, and it seemed slow at building the database. Also, it spit out errors about something being too large, or something to that effect.

Do you have any other ideas?

Thanks!

use the find command

Quote
# find / -name filename

/ = where to look... /usr/bin will look only in /usr/bin/ and any subdirs...

-name = searches by filename

look at man pages for more info

Is there a way to disable the cache in Konqueror, assuming that is what the single-letter folders are? Also, is there a way to download stuff? Right now I'm back to Dillo because of these issues.    I'm also open to other browser suggestions (compiled/packaged or not).

Thanks!

nope, sorry but I've not really used koqueror - dillo is good for my needs.

I might mention that Dillo2 is in one of the feeds not sure if it's much of an improvement tho
