Japanese Symbol For "zaurus"
« on: November 06, 2006, 05:50:01 pm »
Is there a Japanese symbol for the Zaurus?
If so, does it look like an English number 3 with a curl at the bottom?
Please excuse my ignorance.

I think this means Zaurus in kanji ????.  Hopefully, you have same fonts as me so you can see it.

When I browse the Yahoo! Japan Auctions categories, these symbols lead to the Zaurus goodies.

Google's language tools also translates them to Zaurus so, this must be it.

EDIT:  Well that didn't work out so here is a partial screen capture from my desktop.

That's the katakana for Zaurus which is usually used for foreign words or for words to stand out such as company or product names. There probably is no kanji for Zaurus, but then again I might be wrong. Have to consult the Zaurus manual to vreify that since if there is, then it definately would be written on the manual.

Thanks Meanie for correcting me.  I don't think I'll ever master the asian languages.  I'm totally bogged down in the chinese my wife has been teaching me and the kids.

"Zaurus" is a somewhat mangled reference for dinosaur - see "Tyrannosaurus." As such there wouldn't be any kanji for it.

The symbol "like an English number 3 with a curl at the bottom" would be the hiragana "ru". It doesn't have any meaning in and of itself, it's just a letter.
