When I connect either my C750 or my C3100 to my Ubuntu box via USB with it set to storage and CF, the drive gets mounted something like eight times. Is this fixable?

I hope this hasn't been covered before.

I don't know why, but that happens also when mounting a C860 with Sharp ROM on a MacOS X 10.4.8 machine. It appears to be some fundamental issue with USB Mass Storage devices.

I just discovered that it's not only mounted 8 times, but appears in /dev as sda, sdb, sdc, etc. Does that clear anything up?
