build 5.4.7 has finally been uploaded.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=163628\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Meanie,
I have finally moved from my own home brewed pdaxii13 like distro to your official 5.4.7 release. I have noticed the following 'funnies':

if I boot without my wifi CF card inserted then the boot process terminates differently than when it is inserted - I don't get the wm selection dialog, my usb devices are not recognised and I just have a console login - startx works but plugging devices in either usb or cf never get recognised.

if I try running mplayer from the command line (for example typing "mplayer *.mp3") the Zaurus hangs.
which mplayer = /usr/bin/mplayer - it appears in aterm window
gmplayer appears to work fine... (when run as gmplayer)
[ok] so running mplayer Firefly-Serenity.avi works just fine.
I used to run mplayer in console mode just cos I like consoles ... guess not anymore...
Which of the 3 mplayers will work for audio files in a console?

This is all on my C3000 - fresh full install - single MD partition - only additional packages are your e17 and zdevils 'emacs'.

Love pdaxii13 - thanks for all your great work. Anything I can do to help debug these issues?
SL-C3000(Spitz) - pdaXii13 5.5alpha + sound enhanced kernel - MD in 1 great big partition -  Ambicom CF Wifi + USB Ethernet  and NOW Zubuntu on a 4Gb SD

I think your problems with the CF and USB is caused by some leftover files under /var/...
I have seen it before when my Z crashed and left some files under /var and it kept sending me to the login prompt when the pcmcia start script is called. try it out. run /etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia restart
try restarting pcmcia a few times when it works and see if it can get rid of the culprit files under /var

as for mplayer, just use mplayer1, mplayer2, or mplayer3 in command line instead of mplayer to play your mp3 files. the mplayer wrapper script does not handle wildcards.

It's absolutely fantastic what level pdaXii13 has reached!

However, I'm left with one little question: How do I get the special characters like German umlauts (ä, ö, ü, ß) in 'mrxvt'? Whenever I press one of the key combos as explained on Meanie's great page (Section "Keyboard Shortcuts"), I get some strange characters but not the expected umlauts. The key mappings seem to work fine in 'rxvt', though.

Any idea for me?

TIA!

I have strange error on booting and problem with suspend.
Error:
Starting system message bus: Failed to start messagebus: Could not get UID and GID for username "messagebus".
I've to admit that I've installed some dbus libs for pidgin (not Meanie version) first.
I'm not sure if problem with suspend is related or not but Zaurus  doesn't wake-up.

Thanks in advance for any help.

mrxvt does not support 8bit encodings which is required for the umlauts and other special characters. you need to use urxvt or rxvt-unicode which on pdaXii13 is simply called rxvt.

you installed an incompatible messagebus (dbus) without upgrading all the other dependent libraries. this is not supported.

build 5.4.8 is available for testing.
this release comes with an updated kernel (still 2.4.20 but with extra features)
the sound should be better, battery monitoring should be better, and hostap support is improved, ie some wifi cards that previously were created as eth0 will now be wlan0.
in order to get wpa working, you need to install this package: hostap_driver_0.4.7_3_armv5tel.ipk
there is a new tool to control the sound chip, ie enable treble/bass/3d

Dear Meanie,

i think i've a major problem with latests pdaxii13 at least since 5.3.6+ i think : i've filesystem corruptions each time (again with 5.4.8) and i don't know what i'm doing wrong...would you help me?

here is what i did lastly:
-5.4.8 full download on a 512Mb sdcard
-flash process then extraction process with pdaxii13 install scripts
-reboot
-i choose icewm as wm; everything seems ok
-then i ipkg remove scim, scim-pinyin, scim-tables and run pdaxii13 config to disable scim loading
-then i updated rfcomm.conf and /etc/ppp/peers with my provider setup
-reboot
(sometimes i have some filesystems repairing messages on boot...)
-ipkg update
-ipkg upgrade
then i had filesystem corruptions..... (for example my /etc/resolv.conf is backed up to original one and rebooting with icewm leads to only backgroung screen shown...)... updated: it seems rebooting to openbox is working though...

right now i'm backing up my hdd3 partition to go again a whole hdd re-partitionning and formatting with your 5.4.8...i'll let you know about it...

thanks for any help!

ipkg upgrade is not a supported mechanism for upgrading pdaXii13 since the feeds are from many different sources that have conflicting package dependencies...

it is also a bad idea to upgrade packages from within X (unless you are absolutely sure you are updating a package that does not need to update any libraries that are needed by your current WM) because there could be dependencies on the packages that are being used that need to be upgraded. ipkg will try update them and  silently fail but upon reboot they will visibly fail and cause havoc.
