I was just wondering if anyone else felt like we should merge some of the boards together. It seems like some arent used that much. Also I would think there would be benifits to not having so many boards with a smaller community.

What other boards?  This is the only one I use.  I am not even aware of any others.  Please post the url\'s to any other dedicated Z forums.

I would definitly welcome this effort. For me as a developer, web forums are very cumbersume and having less of them to monitor would be a relief.

Oh... forget it, I thought you meant different forums as opposed to different boards on the forum here.

I think we would welcome some consolidation in this area... honestly, we have quite a few forums.  If we get some suggestions as to where we can consolidate, we can plan out some changes for people to review and gather feedback.

regarding consolidating other zaurus boards (externe.net, zug, etc.), I think that\'s really up to the people who use the boards.  Are there features/functions that are on other boards that we don\'t yet have here?

Ok here are several ideas on what to merge together I\'d like to hear everyones view on these. The benifits of these changes would be less fragmentation in the boards which would be nice. This might start more converstaions and there would be a few others which will hopefully see more use in all the boards we have out there. Also it will make it much easier for mods to move post to the correct board because a single post will be much less likely to cover several boards worth of topics.

It seems redundent to have a general discussion forum for everything dealing with zaurus when there are specific discussion for each one. Maybe a merge to just a general disscussion and then each of the hardware forums.

We could merge the hardware forums together also if no one saw a problem with that. It wouldnt be too much work to have some specifiy what model their running (most do this anyways).

Under devolpment seeing as some of those forums are rather quite would anyone mind if we merged it into justs one dev forum? Still keeping the User request for apps though.

Should we keep the accessories forum or let that stuff get talked about in the hardware/general forum?

I kind of like seeing the ROMs having their own forum this gives people a place to go to specifically talk about that ROM in particular.

I dont know how I feel on the Linux Issues, Windows Issues and Mac Issues boards couldnt this all be summed up in a board just dealing with Desktops zaurus stuff in general?

For Sale and Deals could either be redone into one since their rather quite just have buy/sell zaurus and i\'m sure if people were looking they would post something there

Security/Networking could be taken care of other forums already there. Most likely someones only going to be looking into these things from hardware and applications in which case there are those forums or they are programming for it in which case there is the dev forum. Security issues can be discussed and would fit in several of the purposed forums also

Clean up the ZUGs if it hasnt been used in a good while see if its still alive if not its just more clutter.

So we could have them look something like this

    General Discussion
    Hardware
    Zaurus Desktop Talk (or something)
    Open Zaurus
    X11
    Sharp
    Devolpment
    Software
    User Request for Apps
    Buy/Sell
    ZUG forums

Oh come now im sure more of you have an opinion on this enough of you browse the forums
I think a tighter more grouped up board would be nice. It would at least make lurking easier for us newbies

I\'m actually quite happy with the number of parts of the forum, the thing is people tend to post almost everything in only a couple of parts of the forum, either because they don\'t think the descriptions on the more specialised parts apply, or because they think that General Chat will get more views.

I\'ve no suggestions for solving this though, except perhaps taking a look at what people post and then broadening some of the underused parts so that less gets posted to the more popular parts.

The devnet was good though. The problem I find now is that I\'ll post a question (in general discussion - I\'m also guilty ;-)) and by the next day I\'ll almost have to scroll down an entire page to find it.

I don\'t know about solutions, but I still think that looking at broadening the descriptions on the under-utilised parts of the froum might spread the load a bit.

I think people will post to the first forum... by default... until they learn better.
general as a first, is fine with me.

personally, I\'d prefer a wiki only based system... where people make threads off a first/main topic.
but, hey, I\'m strange.
