Bugs In Rc121 Accouncement Thread
« on: November 30, 2006, 01:44:03 pm »
I know these bugs are all spread out between multiple threads and instead of going out and looking at about 30 thread and countless posts to find the bugs, I thought I would start a thread that users can post issues, annoyances, bugs, suggestions, etc...

With *RC121* only...

Now there are some rules to this thread... I dont want this to turn into a "fix-it" "diagnose it" "just do this" thread... because I'm trying to keep this down to just bugs... because I dont want to to have to thumb through pages and pages of people saying... have you tried this... have you tried that... So...

POST AWAY! the more bugs I get the closer we will be to a stabler release :-)

Bugs In Rc121 Accouncement Thread

Just some quick things I noticed not sure if any one else has this w/ their C1k considering I'm a noob.

1.  Intermittent : Upon resume from a long suspend minimized active tasks cannot be maximized.  The active task folder on Matchbox does not show anything.  I notice the processes with a "ps -A".  I could maximize and then start using the app by doing an alt tab with the keyboard.

2.  Constant : Amibcom WL1100C-CF card has a solid light when system powers on.  System does not recognize the card and dmesg doesn't show much.  I sent you the dmesg on another post.  Once the card is reseated all works fine.

3.  Request : Updated RNDIS USB drivers for XP boxes.  I tried loading some inf files from handhelds.org and updating some usb8023y.sys files from microsoft however no go for the Z.  The Z looks like it sets up the RNDIS correctly.  Dmesg output looks good and an ifconfig shows the usb0 interface up with an IP address.

4.  Constant:  Once testing with number 3 scenerio I cannot plug any device into the usb port until I reboot.  I tried restarting usbd and modprobe usbnet.  Also when plugging in a usb device system immediatley suspends.

Hopes this helps.

Also with the C1K fixing the usbfunction.py script to use "cpuinfo"

Here are the Fixes that I had to do:

- wpa_supplicant script: Line 26 of /etc/rc.d/init.d/wpa_supplicant file. There is a double hyphen -- in the middle of the line that calls wpa_supplicant in daemon mode. This causes the wpa_supplicant not to load.

- The default install does not have the [Fn] + [1,2,3,4] hot keys correctly set-up. You need to change the line in /usr/X11R6/bin/startx from ->
defaultserverargs=" -nolisten tcp"
to ->
defaultserverargs=" -nolisten tcp -kb"

- The german key-mapping file does not work. I created my own file.

- vi does not work, it sometimes displays incorrectly. I use vim instead.

- xterm has a problem with text-output.

- xmms seems to consume too much CPU-time, much more than in other roms.

- The application-menu "Settings >" is half out of display.

- Volume applet and mixer do not work.

- I have not found the second and third "mouse-buttons" yet.

Very nice rom after doing some small fixes!!

Don't know how far back this thread is supposed to go,
Just mentioning some things I had on a fresh installed r121:

- internal drive doesn't mount on boot
- cf doesn't mount on boot
- packages installed on external dest (not in root) get messed up easily (probably due to the above issues)
- right click is on shift now
- bluetooth card (billionton) didn't work out of the box - needs scripts
- bluez.pc missing in zgcc-image
- "lan & wifi" app doesn't work - Wifi card needs scripts
- plugging my wifi-CF creates "wifi0" and "wlan0" ?
- "usbconfig" app doesn't work out of the box - Z not recognized as Mass Storage Device
- sometimes on resume I get automatic suspend. Resuming again solves it.
- package manager : sometimes there are no destinations to install to
(these are the ones I can remember right now)

Hi,

I forgot:

- The display backlight does not (always?) turn off when closing lid.

- Key config app does not work, not possible to reassign the special keys like mail or mouse buttons there.

Bugs:
1) when battery is getting low (when apm shows around 40%) backlight may start to turn on/ turn off. When you've got around 20% device starts to suspend when you do anything that tooks lot of power.
2) Some bugs with zgcc (missing headers, missing .a files, misplaced headers, etc.)
3) If I set Screen off time to 20 min it sometimes turns off in 15 min.
4) Sometimes reads wrong coordinates from touchscreen.
5) In emergency system it tries to mount /dev/hdc to /mnt/cf instead of /dev/hda (there is no such device - /dev/hdc)
6) It tries to mount /dev/hda1 to /mnt/cf (but hda1 is 1-st partition of hdd, and hdc1 is CF).

Not sure if this has been addressed by the team yet, but if not I wanted to add my observations.

C860 with r121.  A specific example of what I observe, about 20% of the time:

I try to click (stylus) on the maximize widget on an aterm window.  The 'mouse' cursor stays on the widget, but the cursor changes from an arrow to a text insert shape, or the window starts dragging, or (something on) the top line of text in the window get selected.

The problem seems more likely to occur with gentler presses of the stylus (I have a screen protector installed, btw - a brando IIRC) and also more likely if the pointer was elsewhere on the screen before the tap.  It's very rare on the main menu, or for that matter anywhere in the bottom half of the screen I think.  If I had to characterize it, I'd say that the closer to the top of the screen (in landscape BTW) and the gentler the stylus pressure, the more likely it is to go wonky.

It acts as though the pointer is up to 16 pixels or so lower on the screen than it actually is.  (the pointer stays right under the stylus the whole time, it's nothing to do with touchscreen calibration)

Hi,

some more:

in /etc/rc.d/init.d/single

there are the lines

Code: [Select]
# Kill all Processes
#/sbin/killall -15
killall -15
sleep 3
#/sbin/killall -9
killall -9

the killall on zaurus just prints the usage when called like this. According to the usage it expects a name of a process or a process-group.

Cheers, Jan

-The ICEWM panel disappears after suspend. It is not totally gone (can be seen when rotated), but fairly unusable.

-Internal HD is mounted on /mnt/cf on boot

-Up arrow key doesn't repeat, all the others are fine

-Outside of X you have to hold shift to type "/"

-No command history saved outside of X

There may be more later that I forgot to mention.

- xmms seems to consume too much CPU-time, much more than in other roms.
I noticed that the visualization mode has grate impact on cpu usage.
Analizer mode can eat up 50% cpu pretty easily
Scope mode is less cpu hungr mut still takes 15% cpu
If you turn off all grafic equalizer visualisation stuff I guess it can return to normal cpu usage comparable to other roms or at least is saves battery life.

I also noticed that when I start xmms from the Home button the screen never turns off while if I satrt it from the Sound&Video workspace the screen turns off regularly as set by "Light&Power".
Possibly this could be handy if watching moovies with video xmms plugins ... but is this a desired behavior ?

Actually I investigated further on the matter and it's not "Home" button related but it happens on first resume after battery is charged:
If on first resume after batterry has been charged my c860 fails to turn screen off and probably also suspend. If I then manually suspend and resume ... then the screen off works again.
This is definitely not an intentional effect. I'll update if I notice the same thing on my c760.
