How To Install Libiconv In 1.0.1rc121
« on: December 10, 2006, 11:38:19 pm »
Having tried most of the popular ROMs, I thought it was time to try out pdaXrom on my 3200. Not sure that I did the optimal partitioning, but I will keep playing with it. I was chuffed to see that my Fellowes Stowaway USB keyboard just worked. Outstanding. I am trying to install firefox and gaim. I configured the two standard feeds and I found both packages and installed them. Neither would run and when I tried them from the command line, both were looking for libiconv. I found that package in the feeds, but it won't seem to installed. I tried running "ipkg install libiconv". It seems to find two similar/identical packages, but it won't install. What am I doing wrong? I went back and uninstalled firefox and gaim and tried it again, but no joy. I have enough space. I have done some searching but can't find instructions or others with a similar issue. Help! Help!

What feeds you are using.
firefox & gaim from [a href=\"http://www.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0r121/Zaurus-7x0-860/feed/]http://www.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0r121/...s-7x0-860/feed/[/url]
doesn't need libiconv

OK. I set up the new feed and installed Gaim and Firefox. Firefox works like a champ, but now Gaim throws the error about a missing libdbus-glib-1.so.2. Can't find a similarly named package. Any ideas?

Did you install Gaim from the feed or just pulling down the ipk... gaim requires about 4-5 dependancies that will automatically install once selected...

I installed using the graphical package manager. I thought it would sort out the dependencies. I am trying now from the command line, but seems that the feed is having troubles. I suppose I can try it again in the morning.

So others don't get confused by my non-problem, this was related to a poor installation. When I wiped, reflashed and then installed from the feeds, stuff worked.
