Sharp's Em One (w-zero3 Successor?)
« on: February 19, 2007, 07:10:11 am »
http://www.akihabaranews.com/en/news-13316...+HSDPA+PDA.html

"EM Mobile is the first one ahead with their EM ONE, a Sharp PDA with Windows Mobile 5 (what a shame, Windows Mobile 6 is already available), a removable keyboard, a 1.3Mpix camera, Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth 1.2, a 4.1” screen (800x480), a 520MHz PXA CPU, a NVidia GoForceTM5500 chipset, and a data only HSDPA connection (several are flat fee). Even if the product seems to shine and sparkle, I also see far too many drawbacks:"

so, I think a smartphone of this type clearly shows the new direction Sharp have gone in, and the Zaurus/linux line is truly over, sniff.

still, it gives another challenge to the run-linux-on-everything people once the HTC universal runs linux fully!

ah, I didn't see that thread. I looked for one, but I must have missed it - there must be hundreds of zaurus successor/replacement/change/new variant threads.

The only new novelty that I can find (Kudos to Sharp for still having some design chops that they started with the Zaurus) is the Dual Sliding thingie on a smartphone.

(or maybe I have missed any such earlier devices)

Here are some nice photos of the dual sliding action.

(So sharp really did ditch the Zaurus line in favour of the Pocket PC platform based PDA/Smartphone combo)

Haha .. I just thought this thread was better titled than ZDevil's rather short title.
But not to take away from ZDevil's first post and nicely graphic-ed one at that.

Where are the admins - lets roll all three threads into one.

My student has a Windows Mobile 5 device (clamshell thingy a bit like a Zaurus, with rounded ends - you can figure out which one I mean, but no names), and it is so awful in terms of instability of software that he has offered to swap it for a vanilla phone I bought for 30 quid on ebay.

I think I will be giving this em mobile a miss.

Does no vendor see the point in a decent clamshell any more?
