Service Pack 1 For Beta1
« on: March 14, 2007, 02:07:24 pm »
Over the last year, I've done various things to my Tosa to make it work better with beta1.  The real annoyance comes at those times when I decide that I need to wipe everything out and do a clean install.  It is at these times that I think, "Man!  Wouldn;t it be nice if I had an ipk with all my additional changes already on it?"

So here is my proposal:

Give me your suggestions for what tidbits you would like to see included in the sp1.ipk and I'll do my best to incorporate them.

Here's what I've put in so far, and please note that I am Tosa-centric, so I don't know if these fixes apply to other models running beta1.

1. lightnpower.py fixed.  Original version calls setfl with values 1-6 instead of 0-5, resulting in not being able to turn off the backlight.

2. Modified Key Mappings for brackets, braces, and backticks.

3. Correct Up/Down/Left/Right pad control after screen rotation.  (in progress, since I lost the original fix)

4. Rotate CW/CCW for lefties and righties.  (in progress, see above)

5. The SD fix.

6. Missing Libstdc++.so.5

I'm also considering puting in a few apps that are useful, but seldom used due to the difficulty in getting them installed, like kismet, and x11vnc.

I've documented some of the bugs here https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Temp_B...rom_1.1.0-beta1

I also have a similar idea like yours in another thread. I will start working on the project soon.

Among the customisations that I have made in the pdaxrom distribution the important ones are that
1. "ipkg-link mount /mnt/user" needs to be run when /mnt/user is mounted.
2. I also have used a variable called SWAPFILE which will point to a swapfile. If this file exists then swapon is called. I have added this to the mounting cards scripts. Also swapoff and swapon is called during suspend and resume (in /etc/apm.d/scripts).
3. In the c860 distribution there is no console-tools and no util-linux installed by default. These packages are valuable IMHO.

There are many other customisations that i have madebut i guess these are very user centric and not general enough.

Is this service pack available yet?  Most of the issues mentioned at the start of this thread can be resolved with NAND backups, but I still think this is a good idea.

An additional request would be to fix the apm scripts.

I forgot about the APM scripts.  I also modified mine to shut down WIFI so
the 6000 will not hang after a resume, if WIFI was active when it was suspended.
Somewhere I actually created a list of mods I made, and I'll see if I can dig it up,
although I'm not sure it includes all mods.
