Validation Necessary?
« on: April 03, 2007, 04:29:42 pm »
First off - thanks for a great forum with some truly dedicated member to the cause.

But, is validation necessary for this forum? I tried to register towards the end of last year and gave up after nothing seemed to happen for weeks.

From the members list it looks like over 200 members are patiently waiting to be validated.

I assume no background check or character reference is sort to weed out the spammers so what is the point? Surely there are more efficient ways to stop accounts been generated automatically.

Apart from that, great site guys. Lets hope we don't lose too many fresh members due to validation issues.

Cheers,

Serp

i agree with you. maybe the registration form should be changed to allow new users to fill in their profile, and depending on whether they have a sensible profile, they get approved., otherwise a spammer and a genuine new user look the same.
