Beatiful unit, should be no problem running linux on this.  However, this unit continues a trend in recent handheld devices which sacrifice battery life to the dubious aim of running windows.
2-3 hours just isn't enough for serious mobile use, I get about 5 hours on my 3100 with 2000mAh battery (even using audio and bluetooth internet) and the spare battery is easy to carry too.
