Third Episode Of The Zum Tyrannozaurus Podcast
« on: May 08, 2007, 10:25:54 am »
This time around we did a hybrid podcast that combined skype and IRC and talked about a month of Zaurus news. InSearchOf was on the skype line and Capn_Fish was in IRC. Thanks guys, it was great chatting with you!

Head over to the podcast page to download or listen: http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/?q=tycast

-first off, I'm sorry about the quality of InSearchOf's recorded voice. It was my first time recording a skype conversation on my Mac and even though my test recording worked fine the day before something must have gone wrong. I spent almost 5 hours editing it to make it sound as good as possible, so hopefully it will be good enough to listen to.

-feel free to give us advice about how we can do it better.

ya. sorry.
I'll have to keep testing to see why it was doing that. The testing I did the previous night turned out OK, but for some reason it just wasn't behaving when we were recording. It sounded even worse before I did all the tweaking with the volume.
It takes a lot of time to prepare and do the editing so I try to do the best with small free time that I have.
I'm sure it will get better as I get more experience and the next time you're on you'll sound good.

You did great InSearchOf.  Aside from Skype's problem; you sounded better than I did in the TyCast I did.     Thank you for participating.

Great Tycast Antikx and InSearchOf.

I think you did a pretty good job cleaning up the Skype stream, Antikx.  It sounds better than the Skype session I had a few weeks ago with my brother-in-law in Hong Kong.  It's my experience that Skype sometimes sucks rocks on the sound quality.  Thanks for taking the time to record and edit these Antikx.

the security now podcasts are done with skype and sound excellent.
they said you should both set a fixed port for skype and set port forwarding on your routers for that port.
this way it stops you being used as a supernode which means your bandwidth is being used to share other peoples calls.

setting a fixed port should give the best skype quality.

I'm listening to it now. InSearchOf sounds a bit fuzzy and kind of cuts out every so often, but it's hearable.

You did do a good job of getting me in there via IRC (it didn't really sound odd).

Keep 'em coming!

It just finished, and it seems that there is a lot of empty space at the end. Is there a reason for that?

Otherwise very nice!

I haven't had a chance to listen to the whole thing, but from the bit I've heard so far the Skype sound quality is pretty poor.  There were a couple parts where you had me reminiscing about the old Battlestar Galactica series.  I would have paid good money to hear you say, "By your command."   As much as I like the new series, I do miss those "old school" Cylons!

Still, you learn by doing and I think it's great that Antikx added this new feature.  Thanks!
