I suffer from "chronic gadgetitis" aka "Looking for the awesome". Now I'm
itching for a UMPC, and so I am selling off some stuff I don't use (so I can
buy something else I probably won't use). If anybody knows of an effective
cure for gadgetitis, please let me know.
This is a package deal. I may eventually seperate everything out, but I'd
rather wait a while to sell it all in one fell swoop than to part it out.
Besides, my gadgets love each other and want to be together.
The gadgets:
1. Sharp Zaurus SL-C3200. Immaculate condition, good as new.
I bought this wonderful handful of linux from Pricejapan 6 months ago. (I
didn't need it, but I needed to stop wanting it). I played with it for a
while, tried the different distros, set up a cross compile environment, got
my usb devices and CF cards working, used it for a couple weeks to monitor
the console of some routers (my justification for buying it), and then set it
aside. I've not used it since.
I have all the original packaging, everything that came in the box is still
there, down to the twist ties and the japanese invoice.
Before setting it aside, I discharged the battery to 40% and have stored the
battery in my fridge, (Yes, I store batteries in my fridge.) so the battery
should be good as new. The Zaurus looks new. It's never been taken apart and
shows no signs of wear.
I am willing to set it up with the distro of the buyer's choice before
shipping. Otherwise I will do a NAND restore using the English image from
Trisoft.

2. Intermec 6651. beautiful device. My personal favorite.
Tip: The 6651 is a rebranded SHARP Telios HC-VJ1C.
Why they don't make UMPCs like this (do they?) I will never know. It has a
beautiful 7.1 inch 800x480 touchscreen LCD, and runs HPC 2000. It is very
light and the included apps are very responsive.
Of all my kit, this one gets the most comments from strangers.
I suggest googling "Intermec 6651", as there are some good reviews out there.
My mini review will try to point out what is bad, then what is good.
Bad:
This device was made in 463 B.C. (2001).
The MIPS processor runs the included apps very,very fast, but sucks at
playing videos or other multimedia. I'm not mad at it for this, just
disapointed.
I have taken it apart several of times, looking for the awesome. In doing so,
I have lost the tabs that clip the 0battery firmly to the unit. The battery
still fits snugly in place, and I use a piece of velcro to hold the battery
in. (The battery stays in just fine with the velcro, even in a backpack or
briefcase.)
In order to run (non hpc 2000) Pocket PC apps on it, you have to jump through
a couple hoops.
At one point I had a serial cable for it, and configured hundereds of
millions (maybe less) of firewalls with it, but I think the cable is lost
forever. I've got a friend spending the summer in Japan. I'm going to have her try to pick up a replacement cable. If she does, I'll inform the buyer.
It's hard to find recent HPC software compiled for MIPS.
It has a crappy built in camera/webcam that may/may not funtion properly.
Good:
It is awesome to use for it's intended purpose.
The device is in very good to excellent condition (Other than the bits I've lost).
Best screen I've ever seen in a handheld .
PCCard slot + CF slot + (normal sized) USB host. (HPC has drivers for USB keyboard and mouse)
The included apps load and run very fast. Even though the processor is dated, this things seems really speedy (unless you try to watch a video, just don't.).
The Keyboard is great, not full size, but big enough for touch typing.
The battery lasts forever for an oldie (2 forevers on standby). I think it
may be physically impossible to run it dead(it's not). Maybe that is where they hid the awesome.

The commercial apps available for it are generally of high quality.
I wish I could take the guts from the Zaurus and put it in the 6651. It would
be the perfect ultraportable. If you can touch type and need something to
take notes with, this is it. The combination of screen size, PIM apps,
responsiveness, and keyboard (along with MS Office for HPC 2000) make it
ideal for organizing data/PIM duties. I hear that the Citrix client for this
device rocks like a hurricane, but I've never tried it.
I know it can run NetBSD (hpcmips), and there is a linux
kernel out there that supports it as well(although I've never got around to
trying). If you search for info on that option remember that it it a Sharp
Telios HC-VJ1C rebranded to Intermec. It would make an excellent wireless X
terminal.
3. Asus A620. Tell the iPaq to go to %$&*!
While disguised as a 400MHz Xscale PDA with a large qvga screen fully capaple
of running openembedded, this PPC2003 device is actually my emulated game
playing, ripped DVD watching, fun thing. I know there is some awesome in
there because it can run playstation games way better than any other PDA. As
for game controls, the 8 way directional pad feels like it was made for NES
tennis. I bought this in 2003 along with a nice asus Black leather case. It
is in excellent condition, and the screen is perfect. The one defect worthy
of mention is the fact that the suspend/resume button doesn't seem to suspend(it resumes without a problem.), but two taps of the stylus and it suspends just fine. The battery still holds a great charge, (several days of casual use.)
I did my research before I bought this PDA. I bought it because:
a. Good joystick.
b. Excellent video performance.
c. CF slot.
d. Super Mario Brothers 3 told me to do so.

(If you get BSD or Linux running on the 6651, the USB ethernet and USB serial
would probably work on it as well since it's only limited by the lack of USB drivers)
I'm including two of the mini usb host to fullsize adapters needed to hook up
USB client devices to the Z.
A cheap soft case for the Zaurus.
A zyxel 802.11g USB wifi adapter. Allegedly there are Zaurus drivers out
there for this card. You can also use it as an access point on a windows box.
I've also got a Fujitsu Stylistic ST5030 Tablet PC for sale. I bought it
direct from Fujitsu 2 months ago. I'm selling the tablet for $675.
I am going to take pictures of everything this weekend. I'll update this post
with a link when I do, so check back.
