Zaurus And I On Vacation

For reasons outside of vacation, I had to reflash my Z lately and wipe it clean.    In a week I'm heading on a European Vacation for a month.    Thus far I've got my GPS software installed (GPSDrive), my voip software installed (Kphone/SI), Firefox, and an email client.

Other suggestions?

What are YOUR necessity software when you're on vacation?

ALL of the wireless snifferl/locator software you can run (ethereal in particular)-hotel wireless can be a pain

a complete backup/flash installation + ipks  (somehow I find I tinker with the Z late at night in hotels--not being able to restore really sucks)

some kind of cheap backup power supply (there are good usb based things for the psp)

Battery extender (psp stuff, again)

((battery)powered) usb hub

load games, music and ebooks  --I generally make a folder on my workstation, fill it with ebooks, video, music, then squash it down and loop mount the squash

A good pair of headphones (I like the sony earbuds, personally)

you might consider an extra stylus

 I realize I included peripherals--they are lifesavers

The Z is a great travelling companion, enjoy your trip:)

I would add a memory card reader so you can download pictures from your camera to release space as well as viewing on a decent sized screen, you can also take copies of pictures taken by others.

I've got my Universal plug and my USB host cable to connect peripherals.  I forgot about mem card readers tho  

I'll have to look into the power extender.  That would be pretty nice to have.

I just keep all of the IPKs I've installed on my microdrive, so if I want them, they're there.

As for standard stuff to bring on a trip (for the Z):

Hardware:
-The Z
-Wireless card
-USB host cable
-Adapter

Software:
-Kismet (a MUST)
-Links2
-Sylpheed
-Nano
-MEdit or SciTE
-ZGCC

That gets me just about anywhere I need to go and lets me do just about anything I need to.

you just never know, in fact i would dump the windows versions (putty and tightvnc?) on a flashdisk if you cant get free wifi but find a net cafe, get what you need and leave it one the flash drive and copy it to the Z with a host cable

works best if you have an always on PC or server

dont know if it will run but i have gotten addigted to doomrl latley, its doom in rouge like fassion (nethack)

I always take a CF modem and a CF ethernet card in addition to the CF wifi card. I've been in several situations in which only one of the three was available to connect to the internet.

That may be built for pdaXrom very soon.

Off topic: (can't resist because it's about roguelike again   )
Indeed i did try to compile Kornel's "RL" series, but without success because of FreePascal fails to make (pdaX). A few days ago in rgrd he announces the source code for Linux finally!!! I will give it a go under OBSD.

So, back to the topic: for Z travelers, the roguelikes are a great companion! These games can easily make you forget about the time waiting in the freaky departure hall (but be careful dun miss the flight/train!)
I highly recommend Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup 0.2.5 (latest!). It has a very cool feature that (almost) all roguelikes lack: an interactive tutorial! Now you can kick off being a Minotaur Berserker, Deep Elf Conjurer or Centaur Hunter and begin the endless journey of "hacking away" (in the "deep" sense of RL of course).

it's a pity i didn't read this topic before going on holidays
well, +1 for almost all you said, moreover i've also have a psp so the psp and the Z shares the same power devices


about hardware:
-cf bluetooth with nokia gsm as internet device
-nokia usb cable to save power      (works great under openbsd but i could not have it work out of the box under pdaxii13)
-battery powered usb harddrive helps a lot too
-headphones: i tried the shure e2c but gave them back because i found them too complicated  my koss sportapro is definitely the best headphone ever made
-512mb sd card with openbsd, pdaxii13 and angstrom install files (in case of...)

 
about softwares:
-rss reader (snownews...)
-light browser (dillo, links, for reading oesf of course
-light email reader (mutt)

all this under openbsd, in console mode and x started for some web pages needing firefox (2)
