SD memory can host installed applications same as CF memory?
« on: March 12, 2004, 04:21:09 pm »
I\'m considering purchasing at least a modest storage expansion for my soon-to-arrive Zaurus 860. I can imagine the curiousity about Firefox making it imperative that I find 25Mb somewhere to install it   Hopefully minimo will be forthcoming soon.

I will almost always have a network adapter in the CF slot, so I\'m looking at the SD slot for the semi-permanent memory expansion. Probably a 128 or 256 MB card until I see how well it works.

Are SD and CF memory slots fully equivalent for the purposes of moutable storage to install applications to?

Any minimum \'speed\' to get in these memory cards to reasonably run programs like firefox and gimp from? The vendors predicably use many different terms to describe their relative speeds:

Yes, you can install your apps on your SD/CF cards...

FireFox loads slow regardless of where you install it.  I installed gimp on my SD card and it loads just as fast as Photoshop does on my XP machine

Many people has tested different SD card speeds and they all seem to agree that it just doesn\'t make any difference on the Zaurus.  Most recommend against SanDisk SD cards though.
