theKompany gone?
« on: March 24, 2004, 09:20:50 am »
I haven\'t been able to resolve theKompany for a few days now, anyone having problem resolving their address?

Also proto\'s site seems to have gone?

Or have they bailed out on the Z, or have I missed something?

I was able to resolve http://www.thekompany.com. And navigate to their theKompany.rom link without any problems. However, http://www.the prototype.org does not come up, if that\'s what you\'re referring to as \'proto\'s site\'. That\'s odd. Hopefully just a temporary problem.

They seem to have server problems from time to time.  I doubt they are going anywhere.  They have a good easy money-making system going, where they can sell apps and then charge $$ for support. (not a slam on tkc, just stating why I don\'t think they are gone.  I have bought some of their apps and they are very good).

Agreed, tkcPlayer and tkcVideo on my (former) 5500 were excellent.

The website is resolving again, the problem is at this end, I\'ve got lots of sites not resolving, ISP problem.

I own quite a few tkc programs and plan on buying more! I\', on their web site right now... And they\'re still active in the mail list, updating software and releasing new stuff... They seem alive and well.

Too bad they cannot get the IMAP in tkcMail that was promised about 50 times \"in a couple of weeks\" well over a year ago.  They need a zautrix who can actually make a program work, and produce timely fixes.

And how about syncing Calender and Addressbook?

I am astounded they could not get syncing working or their apps ported to the new storage format in over 6 months! One guy has single handedly written KO/PI, regularly produced updates, fixed bugs and implemented requests in as little as a day! TKC could not fix the most trivial bug or implement the most trivial change for several weeks if not months. Meanwhile they produce more crap to sell like today\'s announcement.

I have a number of bug reports (they call them feature requests) active for over a year now for the tkcPIMs just to let the Zaurus menu button activate the menus, like the Sharp PIMs, or yes, the incredible KO/Pi.

That is my point, Elvis;  I really don\'t think they care, just slap some code together, sell as much as you can, and intimidate or kick those off the mailing list who vocally expect to get what they paid for!   theKompany got $60 of my money and not one application is on my Zaurus.  I\'ll go without or switch to a Pocket PC before I will give theKomapny another penny!   No, I\'ll go to pen and paper and count on my fingers first, and sing to myself.

When I had the 5500, I needed a fix to seek through divx video files, they did it within a week, although I was nasty that the feature wasn\'t already there, but they did it.  I loved tkcPlayer, I wish my 860 could play oggs nicely through the built-in mp3 player, ho hum!

Anyway, I can\'t complain.

bash...bash...bash... And what good does it serve?

Most of the \"problems\" I\'ve heard about tkc products are from people using them on other roms & kernels. Or just plain ignorance, like not reading the docs or installing the libraries. Sure, there are some legitimate problems, but what software doesn\'t have those. And you\'re complaining about 5 & 10 dollar software??? Want me to tell you how to crash Adobe GoLive or Croel Draw? Any number of multi-hundred dollar programs. And those companies \"fix\" them by selling the next $120 upgrade... Yeah, there\'s a lot to complain about tkc selling a $10 program that doesn\'t do what you want it to on your own very special kernel...

It\'s pretty simple for a company that has demos. Try the demo. If it does what you want, buy it. If not, go someplace else... I\'m not buying tkcRadio because I couldn\'t get it to work on my Z. Many of their other products I\'ve bought or will  buy.

I don\'t mind a simple mention of a program\'s problem or bug, or even a mention that a company has not fixed a bug in some time period. But why do people rant & rave about tkc? Nothing else to complain about???

Not much good, except keeping others from wasting their money.

I\'ve only been using Linux for 8 years.  Only have science and technical degrees, and have worked in technical industries.
Was an alpha and beta tester for OS/2 and still work in Linux development testing as a volunteer hobby.

Ignorant?  Thanks, I love you too!
You just bought Shawns load of crap about those having trouble.  In my experience in over a year, it is the \"power users\" having trouble, not the ignorant.   The plug and play folks are happy with tkcCrappola.

And I only tried to run it on the tkcROM with no special mods what-so-ever.  Shawn accused me of the same thing.  I just want IMAP in tkcMail, templates and alarms that work in Calendar and ToDo,   I spent $60 for nothing.  I\'d rather have had a nice leather case!

They had no demos when I bought over a year ago.  Wonder why they changed?  :?

I agree we do not need this type of messaging, but we do need more like Zautrix and fewer egotists and B$ers like theKompany and its\' president.

I\'m done posting on this one.  (Unless someone really gets under my skin.)

FWIW, I\'ve got about 8 of the tkc apps and overall they work very well.

Also, I\'ve found that if you make suggestions in a constructive way, Shawn and company listen and are very responsive.

The few times I\'ve had some issues in the past year, they\'ve responded very promptly and with solutions.

Anyway, YMMV but that\'s been my experience!

Just my 2¢...

Slocaus:
\"Was an alpha and beta tester for OS/2\"

Boy do I have some bones to pick with you! (really, just kidding). I still run two os/2 machines here and refuse to give them up. But I could crash them in a second if I wanted to...

and to all...

I\'m sorry if you or anyone else took what I said personally. My response was in general and from what I\'ve seen posted around the net. You yourself say you were running tckrom. That\'s _not_ the sharp rom! Okay, I do agree that the tkc app should run flawlessly in their own os, but I\'m running them on the sharp roms and have no problems. I take it for granted they\'re written for sharp roms unless otherwise stated.

The two legitmate beefs as I understand it are the mail app and the lack of synch with the pim & calendar. I don\'t hold it against them for the synch problems. Sharp switched formats in mid-stream. Which to support? And I wouldn\'t want to write anything that is supposed to interface with any windows program, let alone one from ms. I write windows code and get grief from ms constantly...

I can aso understand taking the issue personally after you\'ve spent the money. But I\'ve also seen tkc offer refunds to such people. I would just like to see the \'complaining\' a bit less vigorous and slightly more impartial. You have to admit that they sell an awful lot of programs and there\'s only a few people things don\'t work for, that we know of anyway?

How about less flames and more \"constructive criticism\"? Fire the anger directly at them if you must, but just offer us the facts and in a pleasant manor. After all, thanks to people like you, I won\'t be buying their mail app, or the voip one. But nothing would make me give up tkcexplorer , jabber, mahjongg, zip, etc...

Yep, I agree, I hope I haven\'t come across as flaming theKompany, we do need companies like them to make some stuff. I have been happy with them, but like I say, when I felt they were in the wrong I told them so.

I also think it is wrong to make people who have recently bought software from them, to then pay again if they buy a new machine, this could give Microsoft yet another nasty idea....
