help!

wat does it mean when you reboot your sl-5500 and the screen just goes grainy (which deteriorates after time) and the green \'e-mail\' led comes on solid?

the only way i seem to able to get round this is to flick switch on the back to \'replace battery\' and then take the battery out...

only problem is - this resets the z back to factory (no i havent hit the \'full reset\' button).

p.s. the reboot is after i have tried to install gaim and all the associated libraries etc.  (i have just bought a new wireless card in it.  it does this with or without the wireless card installed.  the wireless card works perfectly otherwise).

frustrated!

ok - quick update.

i have just trashed my z and started again.

this time, everything has installed ok (i think!) and it seems really stable.

strange.

however, now that i have gaim installed - if i click on the icon - it just gets the \'splash\' and the egg timer...and then nothing.  it doesnt lock the z and i can still open other apps etc.  gaim just aint playin ball.

no error messages, no nothin!

any ideas?

Your first problem sounds like the old double reboot bug.

If you don\'t suspend in between reboots on an sl5500 running the sharp rom you will get what you describe.

There is an ipkg that fixes this and I believe it\'s covered in the FAQ.

I cannot help you with your second issue as I have never tried gaim.

Your QtGaim issue may be related to a libpng problem. I had a similar issue on my 860. Not sure if it is or not but worth a look. The fix is located here under No pictures displayed when I run GAIM: http://qpe-gaim.sourceforge.net/faq.php#libpng

thanks for the reply!

just tried what you suggested - still no joy.

it just doesnt appear to actually be launching the app.

i might try and find where the app is located and launch it via cli to see if there is any messages!
