Kismet install – newbie questions
« on: April 16, 2004, 07:03:30 pm »
I hope that Forum members can help me with this.

I want to install Kismet and the GUI on my Zaurus 5600. I am PC-literate and can distantly remember DOS days. I have no experience with Linux except what I have read on-line recently. I understand how to use File Manager and the basic operation of Terminal. These two files are now on my pc:

kismet-2004-04-R1.tar.gz
kismet-qt_2.0.0_arm.ipk

1. Which folder on my Zaurus do I copy these two files into?

2. Do I have to CD my way to the folder containing the tar.gz file before using the “tar zxvf” command to unzip/unpack it?

3. Some folders show up blue when I give the LS command.  When I try to CD to a blue folder, I get the response “No such file or directory”. What’s happening?

4. Do the unpacked files stay in the same folder, or do I have to specify a destination? If so, how?

5. When using the “ipkg install” command, do I have to specify a destination for the installed files or is it automatic?

TIA for help and patience,

Mike
