Sharp ROM's cross compiler for Docker released
« on: July 08, 2017, 09:53:08 pm »
Kkimigawa has created a new GitHub repository containing a Dockerfile, plus the related Qtopia packages, which can be used under Docker to crosscompile software for Sharp ROM/Cacko using a modern Linux/Windows system:

https://github.com/kkimigawa/zaurus-cross-compile-on-docker

http://kkimi.hatenablog.com/entry/2017/06/30/015100
(Google translation in English: https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=a...&edit-text= )

Docker is a software which "provides an additional layer of abstraction and automation of operating-system-level virtualization on Windows and Linux." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Docker_(software)

Moreover, the author has released two ports done with this crosscompiler, and more are expected to follow:

tree 1.7.0: http://kkimi.hatenablog.com/entry/2017/07/01/001646
zlib 1.2.11: http://kkimi.hatenablog.com/entry/2017/07/05/002711

Wow!  I didn't think anyone would still be developing for these devices.

New software specifically released for the Zaurus is indeed very rare nowadays, but it still happen from time to time, like the dictionary software from koan, Alarmz's releases by greguu and new kexecboot versions by ant. Also, there are a lot of already built and updated packages for ARMv5 devices which run Arch Linux, as the Zauruses. I try as much a possible to hunt down such releases, so that we have a central "hub" for all the news about the Zaurus and other devices.
