"Planet Computers' Gemini is a tiny Android laptop with the spirit of Psion"

"The PDA returns to CES, because everything old is new again"

"having played around with the final version of the product this year at CES, it’s a much more fully realized product than most. As you’d expect, the keyboard is cramped, and takes a fair amount of adjustment to reacquaint yourself, but it’s a full QWERTY, and a lot closer to the laptop experience than just about any other similar product I’ve taken for a spin in the space.

It’s a surprisingly solid bit of hardware for what it is. The company employed the services of a China-based OEM and they looked to have deliver a pretty well-round handset for its price. The phone itself sports a 5.9-inch screen and runs Android 7.1.1 (you can boot into Linux, as well). What’s particularly interesting here (beyond the obvious bit) is that the device will ship in both WiFi and 4G models, harkening back to a time when people could still squeeze some use out of a gadget without cellular functionality."

I think this has not been mentioned yet:

On this leaflet, it is mentioned that additional keyboard layouts are still planned:

It's encouraging to see a review-ish piece that concentrates on the Gemini as a Linux machine. Pretty pleasing, actually, to read what was said.

I'm thinking that it may be helpful to some of us who will be primarily on the Linux side to look into the accessibility options available in our desktop of choice. Some of them are really good at keyboard navigation in lieu of mouse, and I really look forward to seeing what can be cooked up (and presumably shared here).

And, now, a Gemini and, fortunately, a GPD Pocket

@speculatrix and all the others

If you agree, I'd consolidate for convenience all the reviews from the CES show into the first post of this thread (including links mentioned elsewhere, like [a href=\'index.php?act=findpost&pid=283686\']here[/a], and promote it as a news item for visibility.

Varti

I'm very happy to consolidate them

Nice round-up, especially for those non-english ones which aren't that easy to find.

[OT] I have noticed that your post contained an additional garbage character (0xC2) before both single quote characters, I have now fixed that. It seems that you have used a "right single quote" or "curly quote" (which should be 0x92, but I'm trying to figure out on which charset is that), I'm trying to find out if there's any way to prevent the quote to be converted that way. I have seen this happening here also in older posts btw.[/OT]

Hmmm. Weird. I think I'm using the standard US English charset. What can I do on my end to prevent this? It's not showing up in preview, which means either that you fixed it or that there's some intermittency.
