Gemini Planet's owner to visit Planet Computers
« on: February 19, 2018, 07:41:24 am »
Gemini Planet's Mike Halsey has announced that today he will visit the Planet's offices. I'm sure he'll ask plenty of questions to them, and hopefully we'll get some info about things we still don't know about the Gemini (such as device driver support under Linux and keyboard layout changes). I'll report back any news or report regarding this meeting.

Mike has posted some first news on the Facebook page:

- he has personally received his Gemini by the Planet staff, making him the second known backer to have received his device.
- its keyboard is said to be "brilliant", he's already able to type on it at almost full speed. The only problem seem to be with the spacebar, which works reliably only if hit in the middle.
- international Geminis are now shipping, one of them has arrived this morning in Japan (as mentioned in another thread here).
- EU Geminis are stuck in UK customs awaiting a VAT certificate. They should be delivered to Planet in two days and shipped immediately after.
- he'll be writing the official Gemini manual: it will be available as a free PDF, and as an option it will be possible to buy it in printed form. The printed manual will be probably available to backers only, as a collectible item, though this has yet to be confirmed.
- the release of the Linux installer should be imminent, the Linux install tool should be available during this weekend.

Thanks a lot to Mike for arranging the meeting and for this status update!
