I hadn't seen anyone else benchmark the gemini, and with all the fuss about the x25 I thought it would be fun.

I installed geekbench4, and ran it. The results:

Single core: 1043
Multi core: 4715

None too shaby. According to the comparison, it is slower than the exynos in the galaxy s7, but faster than all the snapdragon 820s I could find. Really quite good. I'm not a fan of antutu as it places a lot of emphasis on 3d graphics.

Anyone else want to chime in?

It would be interesting to see the same results from the X27 CPU in a Gemini, although I do appreciate that the X27 might have a lower power consumption!

Thanks for sharing, beats the pants off the Snapdragon 801 in my Galaxy S5 (942 single, 2600 multi, for what it's worth)

Just a small update. I checked out the geekbench4 results page, and some x27 benchmarks are filtering through. There were 36 x25 (MT6797T) benchmarks, and 4 x27 (MT6797X) results. It is quite interesting - although with only 4 x27 results, it probably isn't wise to draw too many conclusions.

The average multicore score for x25 = 4630
The average multicore score for x27 = 4654

(a whopping 0.5% difference)

The top 3 scores were for x25 not x27. Sort of points to the x27 not being much (if at all) faster - it has better power saving features though.

Anyone with an x27 want to try geekbench4 ?

CPU-z reports i have x27 - MT6797X

I ran Geekbench 4 twice so far.

First run:

Single-core: 869
Multi-core 4731

I realized I probably should've closed my background apps as the single-core score seemed low.  So i closed background apps and did it again.

Second run:

Single-core: 1719
Multi-core: 4787

Since there was such variation in the single-core result I am running it a third time now, will update this post accordingly when it's done

Third run:

Single-core: 1620
Multi-core: 4783

Averaging the second and third run (I am fairly confident to assume single-core result on first run was due to the device being preoccupied with a background app), these scores bring Gemini to ~94% of single-core performance and ~92% of multi-core performance compared to an average of the current top 3 Samsung Exynos 8890 results.  No complaints here!

Thanks Allus. I think the single core result depends on which core it chooses. It seems results are around either 900 or 1700 and nothing in between. The multicore results are all similar around 4700 (some have got 5000+ maybe running other OS than stock). Background processes seem to have a negligible effect unless you are running something heavy duty. I tried with background processes turned off and on and not much difference. Interestingly enough, a dual core i5 2.6G only scores 5600. Definitely enough oomph for me.

Hi Guys, for comparison of the Gemini and the Mediatek P70 I benchmarked vs my Note 9 on Geekbench 4, and was impressed by the gap:

GEMINI
Single Core           1700              
Multi Core             4700              

NOTE9
Single Core          2293. (+35%)
Multi core             8400. (+78%)

In Single Core there is a gap but close enough given the price gap of these 2 devices, but MultiCore has almost 2X of  a performance gap
I had not realized the Mediatek P70 was so underpowered vs Snapdragon 845

That coupled with better thermal and battery efficiency (10nm) plus better Linux compatibility would make Qualcomm a much better candidate partner for the Cosmo

Yes, but would Qualcomm even bother to sell, like a few thousand Snapdragon chips to a startup in London? If they did, how much would they charge for them? What are the license fees for even being allowed to use Qualcomm IP in a smartphone, and how much would they add to the price of each device, when making a few thousand phones, rather than millions?

Hi Guys, for comparison of the Gemini and the Mediatek P70 I benchmarked vs my Note 9 on Geekbench 4, and was impressed by the gap:

GEMINI
Single Core           1700              
Multi Core             4700

Thrse are the x25/7 to 845 comparisons  The P70 is significantly faster (in multicore at least). Single core is about the same, the lower clocked A73 is approx the same as the faster clocked A72. In multicore, the result should be well north of 6000 which points to the 845 being about 25-40% faster (depending how far north of 6000), for a significantly higher cost chip, which uses significantly more power.

Mediatek has about the best bang for buck processors at the moment, and the P series is good on power.

PS. we use mediatek processors for this very reason at work.
