Dual boot and other Linux installation in Android
« on: March 19, 2018, 05:34:05 am »
hi,
dual boot (Android+Debian) definitely is a must to use better Gemini, but I wonder if someone has already tried to install in Gemini an "inside Android" version of Linux (Debian, I prefer), routed (like Linux Deploy) or unrooted (like GNUroot Debian + WDSL server). Is it possible?
I'm trying now GNUroot + WDSL server in a tablet that is (maybe) difficult to root; it's a Nordvision Extreme 7). Debian 8 is installed by GNUroot Debian, I'm doing an upgrade to 9 (apt-get...) and for now as GUI I've LXDE (tried to install Gnome but no luck...).
If also in Gemini would be possible to do that it would be a nice addition.

It is possible, and if you root it, you can tell Linux Deploy to access dualboot Linux partition in Android.

It is very interesting, then.
I'll try it when I have my Gemini.

I tried the GNUroot Debian app on the unrooted firmware, and while it runs and gives a prompt and such, it does not give access to much else of the system and is not very useful. I need at least to access the SD card, but couldn't figure out how to.

GNURoot is ok in my tablet unrooted, but it needs a X server. I'm using XSDL (it runs as a VNC and works well).
Besides, it install Debian 8 (jessie). Here I tried to upgrade to 9 (stretch) inside the installation (apt-get update ... upgrade ... list-upgrade, changing the repositories list), the upgrade was apparently ok but then there were issues with libc6...
I don't know if in the Gemini they could be those issues also.
