Microsoft Wedge Keyboard
« on: March 21, 2018, 11:18:47 am »
hi,
anyone that has it, could try if the Microsoft Wedge Keyboard works well with Gemini?
I wonder it because I've that keyboard, and I paired well with my Windows, Mac OS X and iOS devices (iPhone, iPad) with no problem, but I had issue with my tablet Android Nordvision Extreme 7 (a cheap one): the tablet sees the keyboard but when I try to pair the notification is too much fast and generally it isn't possible to read the number (like 123456) to input in the keyboard and if one reads it correctly and input in it (with Enter at the end) the Android seems to pair, but in the keyboard two lights alternatively red and green show that no pair is made.
I read that keyboard works well with some Android devices and not with other, so I'm curious to know if I have hope with the Gemini, some day...
The question could seems a bit "strange", as the Gemini has already its wonderful keyboard, but I'm interested to know about all hardware compatible with the PDA.

Thank you
Salvo

Hi

After a number of attempts I got my Microsoft Wedge keyboard to pair with the Gemini. The dialogue with the pairing code frequently disappears, making the process a bit hit-or-miss.

Once paired it stays connected.

The keyboard mostly works, but the key mapping isn't 100%. On my UK Wedge and UK Gemini I can't find @, for example. More than one key produces | (pipe). I haven't tried adjusting the Gemini's keymap.

Hope that helps.

thanks a lot, Rob!
the dialogue what disappears maybe a problem of Android: also here it appears only 1 or 2 seconds, than disappears, so I must memorise the six numbers and type in the keyboard soon (with enter) first of the grey label become black, otherwise it cannot be paired. A mess!
This problem is a real problem when I want to use it both with iPad and Android: iPad pair it immediately, Android not.
But when it works it is very good.
For the key mapping External Keyboard Helper pro (EKH) that consent to redefine keys and other and with my Italian setup it is better than the internal system. When I don't nee the Microsoft keyboard I could use the internal layout, when I nee it I choose EKH and in Linux (English layout) I've the Italian mapping. Only in X xterm has almost all Italian keys but not the slash (/) over the 7 key: it returns a "?" instead: I don't understand how to get it...

On my UK Gemini I have @ on the bottom of 'K', Fn+K. Not on yours?

Ah, sorry, should have been clearer: both my Gemini and Wedge have @ keys, but I can't seem to find which key *on the Wedge* actually produces that symbol. Given that I get more than one "|" there may not be one.

You describe exactly what happens with my Gemini. It doesn't happen with some other Android devices.

EKH may solve any problems you encounter, but please be aware that the Gemini relies on its own keyboard application. It may not play nicely with EKH.

Right, but there is a menu to choose: with external keyboard EKH, other internal layout for the other uses. Here it works.
