Flash Tool not Flashing from W10 machine
« on: May 08, 2018, 12:41:24 pm »
I am able to connect the Gemini to my desktop. When I open W10 file explorer I see a Gemini listed, when I open the device and click on the internal storage folder I see most folder but not all, which is curious. (For example I see the pictures folder but not the documents folder.)

I have downloaded and installed the Windows driver and in the cmd window I received the “drivers are installed” message. I have downladed the Flash tool but when I run it and try to do a readback I do not get any data transferred. I have made sure that on the Gemini I have set the USB connection to file transfer mode.

How can I check that the flash tool drivers have really been installed, and what else might be the problem?

It looks like you need to select the scatter file before doing the NVRAM backup.

Edit: Actually could just be the cable side. Make sure you connect via the port on the left of the Gemini, according to this thread.

Don't forget to also power cycle the Gemini while connected while it is waiting to read.  The read only happens during the boot process.

I had added the scatter file in download tab, and on the readback tab had added the NVRAM. The problem is that I get 0 B/s in the display at the bottom and nothing seems to happen at all. Eventually I get a time out message.

Yes I am using the port on the left hand side.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried Fn+Esc to turn the machine off, closing the machine and them opening it again. It made no difference. I tride that both while the Flash Tool was trying to read back and before pressing the read back button.

Is there another way to power cycle the Gemini?

If you have not done it yet, try doing a 'Restart' instead of powering off and starting. That worked for me.

What combination of key presses or swipes do I need to do that? I have tried to find this in Fn+Del settings and could not.

In android anyway hold Fn+Esc until the dialog pops up, then press Restart in that dialog.

Thanks. I have now tried that, but with no success.

It is really irritating. I can transfer files OK (albeit to only a few of the folders), but cannot get the Flash Tool to work. Is there any way to check whether the Windows drivers have actually been installed?

That's really strange. You may want to email hello@planetcom.co.uk and see if they can help. It almost sounds like something wrong with the Fn key.

Apologies. What I meant was that I got the Gemini to restart OK but that restarting did not have any effect on whether I was able to use the Flash Tool.

Now got it to work. https://geminiplanet.com/2018/04/07/how-to-...-on-the-gemini/ gives the process. The trick is to ignore what feels right.

Do not turn the Gemini on or connect before using the download tool.

Press the download/readback button while the gemini is closed and not connected.
connect the gemini.
open the gemini
press and hold down Fn+escape
select restart

The second time you do it you just
Press the download/readback button while the gemini is closed and not connected.
connect the gemini.
