Symbols at the bottom of the keys
« on: May 12, 2018, 07:33:32 pm »
I'm sure this is simple, but how do you access the symbols, etc printed on the bottom of the keys? (+,-,@, etc). My Gemini only arrived today, so am anxious to put it to practical use. On my netBook, I simply depress the Fn key, then the key with the required symbol, but on the Gemini, that simply returns the keys main character. This is all in Android, obviously.

Congrats on receiving your Gemini...

Did you update the Gemini Keyboard app as Planet Computer instructs?

I did this through the Google Play Store app, but think you can do it another way (as per notes on Planet Computer support page).

If you updated the Gemini Keyboard app, did you configure the keyboard app as Planet Computer instructs?

Go to the Planet Computer support page for more info.

Hope this helps.

Most of my time, so far has been taken up with re-populating the App listings. It was not until I came to having to input an email address that progress came to a halt.
I've looked at the gemini keyboard app, and it did require updating. Which was promptly carried out. What came next was a bit puzzling, but all the options seemed correct in "Setting up the Gemini keyboard". I even excluded, disabled all other keyboards. (A couple came over with the restore from the backup facility) . But the net resukt is no change. I'm using the Gemini Notes as the testbed for all this. I have to admit to a degree of puzzlement as to how a standard install has some parts which do not function. The Fn key does seem to have no effect on it's own. is it intended to be used in conjunction with other keys?  The Fn key on my Psion netBook performs as I would expect it to, but on the other hand, it's not saddled with the mess that is Android

Well, I seem to have fixed the problem, but not the solution. I did a bit of analysis, and came to the conclusion that it was only the punctuation  functions that did not work, but that physical functions, like volume up and down did. There were also a coupe of keys which gave a return that was incorrect, in upper case. Eventually, I disabled the English (UK) option for language, which should have been the correct choice, and instead selected Alphabet (QWERTY), and all works as it should. The only explanation I can come up with, is that my Gemini is not one built for the UK market. If anyone knows why, I'd be somewhat relieved.
