Tested and working SD card reader for Gemini
« on: May 30, 2018, 04:08:39 pm »
Because I need to quickly send pictures to the newspaper from various events, I needed a good USB-c SD card reader. I thought I'd read that the Gemini hub has an SD slot, but it doesn't. After shopping around a bit, I settled on this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019PI2WP...=UTF8&psc=1

It's tiny, almost too small, and reads both standard SD and micro SD cards quite well. It's instantly recognized by the Gemini (on the Linux side; I don't boot droid) and is supported for exFAT.

So if you have use for an SD reader, this one has been tested to work with Gemini.
dep

Atari Portfolio (yes, it still works and yes, I bought it new)
Libretto 110 CT (with docking station and all kinds of PCMCIA stuff)
And, now, a Gemini and, fortunately, a GPD Pocket

For anyone who only wishes to use micro SD cards I am assuming that this slightly cheper alternative would work also?

For a little cheaper ($8.99 vs. $14.99) you can get this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JJ1VDQ...=UTF8&psc=1 Works like a champ! (at least on Android, not checked on Linux)

I already had a satechi hub (3xUSB, ethernet, HDMI - not working, various card slots) and all bar the HDMI and power pass through works. If you only plug a single device into it, you can even use the right hand USB port.

The only issue is it is expensive. I already had it, so no dramas, but it is $100+

I also had an apple USB-C to female USB-A which works as well, but takes less space, so when I am playing games and plug my joystick in, I use the right side USB with this adapter and still have the left for other things.
