My Gemini was stuttering on Bluetooth streaming so I rebooted it. Now I can't get it to auto rotate. It just stays in portrait mode. Thought it was a Nova launcher fault so uninstalled that but it is the same on the standard launcher. Apps won't auto rotate either. Auto rotate is switched on.
In case you haven't fixed it yet, I had the same problem (since I got the machine a couple of days ago). Thanks to a post on IndieGogo I found the two places I had to adjust:
First, long-press on the home screen to bring up the Settings icon. Tapping that brings up the "Allow Home Screen rotation", which should be switched ON.
Second, open the App Bar panel, and tap the menu icon (2nd from top right) to open the settings, Turn OFF the two "Force..." switches.
That did it for me.
Hello all, just received my Gemini about a week ago and I'm very impressed with the quality of the build and fit, and extremely pleased with the overall result so far. I knew from placing my order that there was a risk I might be getting something that might need some time to sort out the glitches, but I think they have done a remarkable job in the year from start to these 'first' machines. After all it took two years from the start until the Psion 5 series was first on sale.
I'm trying to learn all about it and set it up to my liking, and after 20 years using my Psion's (yes I am still using them to date!) and with no prior experience of either any smart phone or Android/iOS, and no machine or software manuals it is a bit daunting, and I expect to make many mistakes!
This screen rotation is a point in case. Mine had the settings you state above, both Force switches being 'Off' and the Allow screen rotation set to 'On' but it still wouldn't auto rotate to portrait when I turned it to the upright position. The only way I could get it to rotate was to use the Planet icon on the left of the pop up icon bar and select 'Force Rotate'. Then by chance I found that the Allow screen rotation was switched 'Off' again - no idea how that happened! I reset it again, and now it rotates at last! Good, one annoying thing sorted. I am recording this here in case anyone else might have the same problem. It is always worth rechecking your settings.
There are some Apps that when run will rotate the screen to portrait automatically, such as my mobile Bank App and it is just as well because there are things near the bottom of their screen which you can't access in landscape view, because it won't allow scrolling down to see them! So if anyone is in landscape view in any App and can't see how to continue, maybe you can't see a place to 'click' continue, etc. it is worth rotating to portrait just in case that screen view has more than you can access in landscape view.
There is a setting for 'Virtual Keyboard' and a 'Physical Keyboard' just below it in the Languages & Input section of Settings. I have both of these set to Gemini Keyboard - is that correct? I'm curious, who knows why we need both anyway?
There is another minor 'fault' that I am also getting which might be related to the specific set up, but I'm not sure. When I start the Gemini up it always goes to the desktop and some seconds later the icon bar appears too. It's not that annoying and I can soon make it disappear by tapping the Planet key, but there is a switch setting that is supposed to stop it appearing. I have switched it 'Off' but it still appears! Any ideas? Thanks. UPDATE - this particular item is now sorted. The taskbar will always appear after booting from off, but setting it to not appear, just means it does not appear after waking from sleep.
Otherwise everything seems to be working as I would expect so far and I am beginning to get to grips with Android! (I think!)
