Keeping old appointments on the phone
« on: December 08, 2018, 04:31:36 am »
Hello all,

What I particularly liked about my Psions and their agenda is that they kept all old appointments. I started with a 3a, but the old agenda imported itself without fault in the 5mx. Then on to the netBook. I even succeeded getting most of the stuff into the Nokia 9500 and then 9300i.

In short: I could look up old appointments (and their associated notes) from 1996 to 2018.

Here comes the Gemini...

Android only keeps old appointments in any Agenda App up to one year (only) in the past.
This seems to be a "feature".
Fortunately, the web interface still stores the old stuff, but that's not extremely handy on a Gemini, particularly when the Gem is not on line.

Any ideas on how to actually keep the old data ?

Would you recommend an App that stores both the Android Agenda and an off-line copy ? Which one ?

I currently use Acalendar+ and I really like the interface.

Hmm, I don't know why/how you only get one year of agenda data, I've got things from the fall of 2007 (and the only reason I don't have anything older than that is probably because it didn't sync over to whatever I started using then...). I had to get data out of my Nokia E7, convert it, import it to the Gemini, and then MANUALLY update all recurring events (it took only the first occurrence). And notes, and other attachments, I don't think are possible to get over in the export-convert-import-sequence at all, so you would have to update those manually as well, if you need/want to keep them.

If you have synced the Gemini with som online calendar there might be some restriction on how old data you can get synced, but there is no limit to how old data you can store in the calendar/agenda in Android, as far as I know.

I use the calendar on the Gemini without syncing it anywhere, so that might be the reason I can get several years of data on it, if there really IS a limit (but I can't really understand WHY there sould be such a limit either...).

Thanks for your reaction.

aCalendar is a viewer of the Google Calendar, so it synchronizes with the Google account.

It's actually this syncing process that seems to m?ss up the old data. It just 'deletes' stuff older than one year.
It does keep them in the online account.

Now, how do I stop the standard Google sync from deleting stuff ?
Or... is there a way that I keep the older stuff (also) off-line in an agenda on the phone, but preferably without noticing the difference during daily use ?

Which agenda do you use that does not need a Google account ?
