Linux Kernel 5.0
« on: April 18, 2019, 01:53:36 am »
I have not updated the rootfs for ALARMZ (ArchLinuxARM Zaurus) for a while. I hope there are still some of you out there using it. It would be really good to know if you are. If you like to try a newer Linux Kernel on your Zaurus, please check out this post on the Voidz section in the forum. If there is enough interest, I will release a newer ALARMZ rootfs including the 5.0 kernel.

https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showto...st&p=291693
Note:  If you like to test and run the kernel, you will need to download, install it and update your boot.cfg manually.

Thanks for this release. It is heartwarming to see the Zaurus still running the latest version of the Linux kernel. And yes, it would be nice to find out how many users are using Voidz and/or Alarmz.

After all this years I am still a big fan of SHARP/Zaurus and cant't wait to see new developments to come up.

Glad to see you back  Stefan ! I'm also still a Zaurus fan, and others too here.

Congrats for your Zaurii collection, really impressive! Have you bought them on the japanese Yahoo Auction site, or have you managed to find all of them locally?

Hello Varti,
I purchased most of my Zaurus-Devices step by step through eBay over the last 10+ years.
Nowadays it is more and more difficult to get hands on moderate priced Zauries.
But some Zauries are still advertised to be broken, even they are easily to be repaired. :-)

In the other side, SHARP CE/PC-xxxx are offered a lot on Japanese Auction-Sites like "buyee.jp".
It seems Zaurus-Devices are not very popular in Japan!

Last year I have managed to  pick up 12 different Zaurus models within a month, on buyee.jp, I have paid between 5 and 40 euros for each of them. The 7xx models are quite common, and so are the xx00 ones. What are difficult to find are the 5600 and the a300, I have seen only a couple of them being sold last year. Currently I have counted 7 SL models being sold, you just need to have patience and check every 2-3 days for the ones you're looking for to appear.

We're now off-topic, better to open a new thread, I can move these posts there if you agree.

I build a rootfs with the latest ArchLinuxARM rootfs (http://archlinuxarm.org/os/ArchLinuxARM-armv5-latest.tar.gz) and the kernel 5.0 in https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=35284

The builtin keyboard key mapping error. For example, The fn key is C.

I have pinged greguu on #alarmz on IRC about this. In the meanwhile, maybe this post might be useful: https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?s=&...st&p=282633

Is keymap error in console or Xorg? there are two different config files, console should be fine, Xorg was not really maintained by anyone.
