Best to root and look into Titanium Backup =) That's the go-to backup tool for Android apps. https://www.titaniumtrack.com/titanium-backup.html

We don't have root for the Cosmo just yet, so we can't restore the backups at this point. But if you're desperate to move right now, check out Helium: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...ackup&hl=en. That uses the ADB backup mechanism, and so works without root, but these days some apps prevent themselves from being backed up that way.

Be conservative about which apps you bring across - restoring some system apps & system data can make a different Android installation unstable from incompatibilities/conflicts.

Isn't that a fun catch 22.  If he didn't root won't unlocking the bootloader wipe his phone?  :-D  Its been so long since I used the gem, I can't remember.  I can say with certainty though, that unlocking the bootloader on the cosmo requires a wipe as is expected.
