I\'m surprised this thread isn\'t getting more attention. I\'m also interested in cacko for the 5600. I\'m currently running Tkc 2.0 alpha3 and there is room for improvement.

What are your issues with TKCRom? I am trying to decide which to put on my SL-5500 and I would be interedted in a comparison.

The problem is many people are interested in using the ROM but none are interested in maintaining it...

If you\'re willing to maintain a ROM for 5600, you can contact me and ced via PM. What I know is that ced was able to build a flashable and working ROM image using base from Cacko ROM + Qtopia and kernel from 5600.

What needs to be done is migration of features from C7x0 ROMs into 5600 and building a kernel with Cacko kernel patches.

I want the cacko rom for my 5600 also.  Hook me up.

I\'m new to the Zaurus, but if someone wants to get a list of what needs to be done, I\'ll happily compile a kernel for it and build the packages.  I just don\'t have time to search the forums to figure out what needs to be done to get it working properly.

Do the TKC apps work properly with the Cacko ROM?

not that it matters, but I also have a 5600 that I\'m willing to use to test this as often as needed.

I really appriciate all the offers to test the ROM, but untill there is someone willing to maintain, we have nothing to test yet...

I\'ve done years of development and a fair bit of release management and such.  And I\'m looking for a better ROM.  As it is, I\'m still using my Palm that the Z 5600 was supposed to replace because I can\'t stand the PIMs (and haven\'t found a suitable replacement for them).  Even better, I will probably have a bit of time on my hands in a bit (basically, my wonderful tech job has gone elsewhere), and, hey, it will always pad a resume.

On the downside, I\'ve never built a kernel let alone a ROM (I\'m confident I can figure it out, though), my C is rusty, and my C++ is, well, non-existant

ROM maintenence does not require a lot of programming. That\'s mostly compiling existing tools/programs, building ROM image, flashing your own Zaurus, figuring out why the heck it bricked, going back to building ROM image, etc.  The you release a version to the public and realize that you\'ve forgotten one very important feature in the ROM, so you have to start working on a new version right after you\'ve finished this one.

Then you also get a number of posts from people saying - \"Hey, my WiFi card no longer works under your ROM!\"

If you\'re willing to do that - you\'re welcome.

Me too !

A master list of the tasks that need doing would be good, as we can figure out who will cover them. I would suggest multiple coverage as none of us are doing this full time.

Most of us are new to this so a little instruction will go a long way, we may be a little slow at first but like a fat woman falling down a stairs I am sure that we will gain an unstopable momentum !
C3100   - Cacko with PDAXRom and OZ pretensions !

5600 - 255, 256m & 1G Sandisk SD, Wizgo 802.11b, Pocketop irk, bluemonkey BT, Watapon, OZ 3.5.3 Henteges, with a sprinkling of pocketworkstation - depending on the weather !
