Unable to update the Cosmo firmware V25
« on: March 28, 2021, 11:30:41 am »
Hello,

Followed the instruction for the rooted Android from Planet Computer support link and applied it via recovery mode to the correct partition but the version of the firmware is not V25 and remains V23 with the annoying update notification and every time I launch any App it reboots to a half screen for a second then goes thru.

  Am I missing something?

I am having trouble as well. The update goes fine until the actual update step, but at that point I see an error message "E:/bin/sh/ failed with status 127". Any ideas?

Hi Superfly,
every time I launch any App it reboots to a half screen for a second then goes thru.

Had the same - at my machine, everything went smoothly when I made an aditional OTA system update.

Hi.

I also see an error message "E:/bin/sh/ failed with status 127"

I tried an update from v23 (rooted) to v25 (rooted).
Following these instructions
   https://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/Rooted_Android_For_Cosmo

- download http://support.planetcom.co.uk/download/rooted_android_v25.zip
- Unzip in cosmo-customos-installer on sd-card
   Cosmo_Installer_Rooted_Android_auto.sh
   root-boot.img
- Boot into "Recovery mode"
- Choose "install a custom OS on your Cosmo"
- Choose "Install Rooted Android for Firmware v25"
- Choose partition "Rooted_Android" (= EMPTY_NORMAL_BOOT_3
where the "rooted android v23" was installed)
- Updated completed after a few seconds.

   Supported API: 3
   Device is multi-boot
Detecting old-style custom installers, please wait...
->   E:/bin/sh failed with status 127
Detecting new style custom installers, please wait...
   Output:Installing Rooted Android
   Running "/system/bin/dd if=/sdcard/cosmo-customos-installer/root-boot.img of=/def/block/mmcblk0p41 bs=1m" OK
   Running "/sbin/parted_static /dev/block/mmcblk0 name 41 ROOTED_AnDROID" OK
   Alle Done!

- Reboot into "Rooted_Android boot"
- Infinite loop ...
(the planets turn and turn and turn ...)
- Reboot in "NORMAL boot" works fine.

I then installed the rooted android v23 again in
exactly the same way. But without "failed with status 127"

   Supported API: 3
   Device is multi-boot
Detecting old-style custom installers, please wait...
Detecting new style custom installers, please wait...
   Running custom installer, please wait...
   Output:Installing Rooted Android
   Running "/system/bin/dd if=/sdcard/cosmo-customos-installer/root-boot.img of=/def/block/mmcblk0p41 bs=1m" OK
   Running "/sbin/parted_static /dev/block/mmcblk0 name 41 ROOTED_AnDROID" OK
   Alle Done!

Boot takes place without any problems in v23.
Everythink is running fine again (no data lost).

Could someone help?
Thanks in advance...

Have you updated or installed the non-rooted android V25 first?  Rooted android is a layer on top of the non-rooted android and is not a complete system in itself.

No, I have not.
So I must first make an OTA system update, then the rooted image. OK.
I will try it tomorrow and post the result.

Thank you very much for your help.

Unfortunately exactly the same problem.

I have now installed non-rooted Android v25 via OTA update first.
No problems, no error messages.
A boot in "NORMAL boot" works without problems.
I now also see the new boot menu.

Then I installed the root-boot.img as described above.

Unfortunately again:
Detecting old-style custom installers, please wait...
        E:/bin/sh failed with status 127
And still an infinite loop at booting into "Rooted_Android boot".

What else could it be now?

Because the boot-loop still exists and the PC support said:

"...It sounds like it might be best if you reset the device altogether.
We only provide support for the standard Android setup..."

I have completely rebuilt my COSMO with the SP Flash Tool now.

- "format" whole flash
- "download" Cosmo Stock v23 (non-rooted)
- Boot into v23 (non-rooted)
- OTA Update into v25 (non-rooted)
- in recovery mode: create partitions for multi-boot
- in recovery mode: install root-boot.img (v25)
- reboot into ROOTED_Android

Works fine. I have a rooted v25.
Without my apps and without my data, but I could install them now.

BUT

- I have no IMEI anymore and I can't get a 4G internet connection (phone calls are possible).
- The WIFI-MAC address changes every time I connect. I need a fixed MAC

With xposed modules and Apps I can set IMEI, but only as long as the xposed module is active.
4G still does not work.
So far, I can neither set the WLAN-MAC via App nor via Termux or prevent the constant change.

Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Someday, when I've grown old and wise, I'll have learned to think first and talk / post second.... ::)

I have restored the nvram from an old TWRP backup.
This seems to have fixed all the errors.
I have my old IMEI back, I have my old WIFI MAC back (and it's not changing anymore) and I have 4G again.

So at the moment it looks like all my problems are solved.
