fbpanel compiled for pdaXrom

info and pics of fbpanel here: http://fbpanel.sourceforge.net/

Get the ipk here:  http://zaurus.hostnic.us/coreyc/fbpanel_3.....5_armv5tel.ipk

This is an alternative panel for pdaXrom.  To use it install the ipk and edit /home/root/.xinitrc

NOTE:  This panel doesn\'t behave like it should if you rotate the screen.   If you use the rotation feature of pdaXrom this is probably not a good panel for you to use.   I\'ll try to find a fix.

Comment out the matchbox panel line:
#matchbox-panel --no-flip $MBORIENT &

And add this line below the matchbox-panel line:
fbpanel &

To customize your panel you need to edit the fbpanel config file.  The config file is /home/root/.fbpanel/default

Have fun

Oh.. if you have xmonobut installed add this line under the fbpanel line in .xinitrc

xmonobut -k 37 &

and it will showup in the sys tray part of fbpanel.

This panel looks much better than the matchbox\'s one, thanks! It needs some further work though -- menu does not resemble the installed content (it is just hardwired in .fbpanel/default), rotation doesn\'t work correctly, as you mentioned. The good thing that it is possible to start battery applet, by running \'mb-applet-battery &\', and it works (although the bubble popup with the exact battery juice when being clicked does not appear for some reason).

But it is great anyway, much better than the default one, where all the space seems to be wasted with no taskbar, no pager etc. Thank you. Would be great to see this panel in the mainstream distribution.

ikm,

I can work on the .fbpanel/default config file to include the default pdaXrom apps if enough people are interested.   Everybody would still have to manually add any programs they install themselves though.

I honestly don\'t even use fbpanel.  I compiled it to see what it would look like and stuck with the matchbox panel.

The better solution is to automatically update .fbpanel/default each time X is started to include all installed programs, retrieving the info from the place matchbox takes it from. Or just hack fbpanel to make it getting the info on installed programs by itself.

Don\'t bother then  But I don\'t see a single reason why matchbox panel is better. The only thing that comes to mind is that the rotation is broken.

Hello,

you can also use the MB-applets, just add them to your ~./xinitrc. There is the menu-launcher which shows all installed programs.

My  tail ~./.xinitrc looks like this:

rox -p=MYPINBOARD &
#matchbox-panel --no-flip $MBORIENT &
fbpanel &
xmonobut -k 37 &
mb-applet-volume &
mb-applet-wireless &
mb-applet-battery &
mb-applet-menu-launcher &
openbox

I have to optimize the order but it is a nice combination of fbpanel and mb-applets. If somebody could solve the issue with the rotation of the fbpanel....

Greetings,

Fabian

Any chance someone will fix the rotation issue?
I would like to use this panel specifically because I am desperate for an applet that lets me select my desktop screen.
I cannot find a way to do this with matchbox\'s panel, am I missing something?
Anyway, if no one gets to it this week, I may be forced to investigate.... Please save me from that!
