How to NAND backup and restore on 5600/6000?

that has a nand backup of a 5600.  Which leads me to wonder, how exactly is such an image produced, and how is it used?  AFAIK, the D-M menu is only for Cxxx Zaurii.

I\'m interested because I want to make a full backup of mine, just in case.

You\'re right, I just tried it on the 5600.  But it does not work, so far as I can tell, on the 6000.

This is a guess, so I would remove the CF and SD cards first.

D+P and reset works on the 5500 to open the service menus...let us know.

I see that D+M+reset gives menus including \"NAND Flash Backup\" and restore on the 5600; the D+P+reset do not.  Dr. Wowe, does D+P+reset lead to different menus on 6K?

D-M reset does nothing on my 6000.  D-P reset gets the service menu.  It basically looks the same as the 5600 D-M menu but the secret key combination is slightly different.

If you decide to make a Nand backup file you will need at least a 128mb CF card formated with vfat (Fat16) because the file size on my 5600 Nand backups were 66.1mb with both the Zynergy and the Sharp Roms.
Note: the C-series are much larger because of the Japanese and English Fonts and Dictionary

This is in no way an attempt to influence your decision to try a Nand Backup, but if you do please let us know the file size.

The Japanese and English fonts have nothing to do with the larger size of the Cx60 NAND file. The NAND file is a complete backup of everything on the Flash chip with extra info added in - probably for error checking. Having little or no data on the chip when you make the NAND makes no difference in its size. A NAND file from a given model will always be the same size regardless of what ROM is installed.

The 64Mb chip in the 5600 (and the C700 and C750 by the way) means that the NAND file should be 69271568 bytes or 67648 Kb or 66Mb (actually 66.0625MB) The C760 and C860 have NAND files of 138543120 bytes or 135296 kb or 132 MB due to the 128Mb flash chip. The 6000 should have the same unless Sharp has changed the format of the NAND - which I doubt as they haven\'t changed the kernel or ipkg format.

Greg2, I don\'t need any convincing, that\'s why I posted the message in the first place.  Fortunately, I happen to have a 512MB card lying around.    Oh, and the file size came out to 69271568 bytes, as Stubear predicted, and was named syst0006.dbk.  Why it\'s not called syst6000.dbk is anyone\'s guess.

Does the 6000 only 64 Mb flash? I though that it had 128 Mb.

The NAND file size the DrWowe reports is for 64 Mb - Now I\'m confused  :shock:
