The short answer is that there are 3 families of ROMs (excluding any of the X based ROMs for the moment).
These are:
1) ROMs based on the old Sharp ROM (1.xx/2.xx) e.g. Crow/Flinders
2) Openzaurus/Opie
3) ROMs based on the new Sharp ROMs (3.1x) e.g. Tkc/Cacko?
Openzaurus/opie will run pretty much all other apps (with the exception of the PIM apps from the new Sharp ROM - though it is possible, but painful, to get them working).
Tkc is one of (3), and this type of ROM will run all Sharp designed programs and in many cases opie programs too. That said you\'ll want to use the opie apps for sharp ROM feed (
http://opie.handhelds.org/feed/sharprom) and some things not in here won\'t work (without some possible relinking/general hacking, etc.).
There are also some type (1) ROMs still in use (especially amongst those with 5000ds), these are pretty much the same as (3) above as they have basically the same underlying system files.
There\'s a list describing some ROMs here:
