I suppose that would depend on a few things:

1.  what would be the overall objective and goals be for the \"developers only\" site
2.  how would you limit the site to only developers?  (ie. the devnet had a sign up questionaire, but non-developers could complete it and still join)
3.  what specific needs/services would be offered that other existing sites don\'t currently offer (i.e. project setup/repository)

let\'s explore this and see what the community needs!
Search the OESF Wiki
C1000 w/Cacko 1.23 beta (from Streamline) / 760 pdaxrom rc9 / 6000L (thanks Santa's elf!) / 5500 - OZ 3.3.5 / SIMpad SL4
1GB, 256mb SanDisk CF / 2x 1GB, 512mb, 256mb, 128mb SanDisk SD
Ambicom WL100C-CF wifi / Socket 56k CF modem / AmbiCom BT2000-CF (x2)
Pocketop keyboard, Piel Frama case (1000 & 5500), PDAir case (760 & 1000)

The overall objective for the \"developers only\" site would be to bring the develpopers form the difrrent roms to gether.  And also to help to compulemt the apps that where left unfished.

As for how to stop non developers from signing up, I don\'t want to bascley what I ment was instad of haveing user ? such as \"My sd card is reporting I/O errors.\" have more ?\'s geard towered deveulop.

One central area, to help develpoers with problumes.  An index to the diffirant dev sites.  Help with problumes that might come up with compileing diffarnt source codes.  May be a source code backup form diffrant web sites(dupending on amount of disk space.)

I might add that I am not a develper I just had a idea and was wondering what other peaple thought of it.

I would think a developer wants to stay in touch with the folks actually using the apps...(i.e. users).

We do have separate development news boards, and I have no problems sifting through messages that I have no interest in.  So I\'d say I like it as is.

My 2 cents...

I was not aware that there already where separate develoment news boards for the zaurus.  Could you point me to some please.

As for my idea your all probley right there is relley no need for a dev only board but I thought I would post it anyways see what other peaple thought.

If the Zaurus community was huge it might well make sense to have a site that catered mainly to developers.
As it is, the community is rather small and I believe that fragmenting it further would not be helpful. From what I\'ve found this is the only thriving Z site, it would be bad news if people drifted away.
I\'m very happy that a good mix of developers, experienced users and newbies all congregate at this one place. For a new person like me, it means I can get information from a whole lot of different perspectives all in one go.
As doc mentioned a couple of posts higher, it\'s good for developers to be so close to their users. Instant feedback is great for both users and developers!

Cheers!

I don\'t see a reason for yet another web site. If you need to host a project - there is sourceforge.net. If you need to discuss - there is ZUG. What else do you need?

Really, there\'s no reason for another separated dev forum. I agree with all people defending this idea.

Dev forums are already created in the \"Everything Development\" sections here:
http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...pBB2&file=index

I think this way because I\'m convinced that it won\'t help the developer community if offroadgeek split more the forum area. It is so good at its present state.

What you perhaps want is a few ZaurusUserGroup little modifications, but I\'m not sure. Something like:

_ twiki.org for the Unofficial Zaurus FAQ, the Zaurus Howto and Z Software & Themes (to be able to use its automatic menu construction like on Mandrake wiki web site: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/twiki/bin/view/...w/Main/RpmHowTo  )

_ less links on the main page and 6 well defined web site sections(tabs): (1) main page/news, (2) forums, (3) FAQ & Howto, (5) LinuxPDA DevZone, (6) Software&Themes wiki pages.

And the Z DevZone is certainly what you are expecting the most e.g a revamp of the old community.zaurus.com (I should say a new life for community.zaurus.com) but only for software included in the new Linux Free OS for Embedded Device.

And of course all this is perhaps what you are thinking about
If this is true, then any idea should have been posted in the specific (already created) ZaurusUserGroup forum e.g.  \'Site Suggestions, Feedback, and Update\'.

-----------------

When you said dev unification I agree. The \'separated dev forum\' idea is perhaps not the best one. I still think that a global project with well designed / discussed / freeze features (something like: what libraries should be in and what software should be available) will see the light someday.

To pick up the lpotter preferred phrase I will say this: \'Stay turned\'.
