Then build with more deep knowledge from there, by reading papers, rfcs, books, etc...

LOL I do understand what you are saying bluey, nice comparison :?
But what you guys need to understand, is I\'m not asking you all to spoon feed me, or \"teach\" me how to hack.  All I was asking for are some sites where I can find some information on the subject at hand...  Nothing more...   And no I don\'t understand all the negative comments, (I saw them comming) as all those who make stupid remarks like search for \"script kiddie\" etc.  were once clueless too, but now they are Mr. Uberhacker and don\'t want to point a n00b in the right direction.. I don\'t get that... but I do understand about what you are saying, that it is a very complex matter, and I totally agree,  I\'m just kinda looking for an informative starting point...

Sheesh, you are defensive!

FYI the easiest place to start is to get some \"script kiddie\" tools and examine them.  Working code is much more instructive than a bunch of RFCs.

But I\'m going to stop wasting my time posting in this topic before I get accused of making any more \"negative\" comments.

bluey you could not be anymore correct about people turning into script kiddies, after being rejected... it is so much easier for these kids to do a search on google for \"script kiddies\" than to get one decent answer from a real \"hacker\".  (The latter - damn near impossible).  But anyways thanks for the info, I\'ll definately check those sites out when I get home, I\'m pretty sure i\'ve been to securityfocus.com before... Thnx for your help - much appriciated I\'m done with this topic (SHEESH) :?

And let me do an analogy for DrWowe so he can understand why I come off as being \"defensive\"

If you went into a fourum, and asked the question:  \"How can I fix my car?\"
And then people respond with:    \"Well, you can do a search on google for mechanics...\"

That type of ish makes me mad, and gets me in a defensive attitude.  And yes, you did mean that as a \"negative\" comment when you told me to search for \"script kiddies\" - so don\'t try to flip the script.

And... chill, DrWowe was trying to help too, just didn\'t explained what he meant with suggesting a search for script kiddie. While looking like he was calling you one, which he wasn\'t, he was just saying that it is good for you not become one.

Depends on what you want to do here - do you want to learn how others are writting exploits so that you can write your own or better yet write patches for exploits? Or do you just want to test exploits against your machines to make sure they are safe.

If you want to go the first option then you WILL need to learn some programming (C/C++ mainly but also assembly language) to understand what the guys who write the exploit notifications are talking about - some of them get pretty deep at times.

If you want to get some exploits, compile them and run them against you machine then generally you don\'t need any major programming skills above using a compiler (and sometimes not even that) - have a look at http://www.astalavista.com/ and http://astalavista.box.sk/ - Warning if you plan to spend much time at these sites make sure you have some software that stops pop-ups - some of the links to   hack sites are just front pages for pr0n sites that try to take your machine over with adds for viagra and offers of \"interpersonal\" realtionships
