SL6000 Early adopters?

So has anyone else bought a 6000? My 5500 croaked whilst attempting to upgrade to Oz, while surfing for a replacement, I kept seeing the ads with that nice..big...pretty..screen. Anyway, I now have one, and the 5500 is on its way to IL to (hopefully) get fixed. But of course the 6000 doesn\'t connect to Linux  (my desktop box) via USB, sync with Evo via Multisync, and run most of the apps that I had with the 5500. A phone call to Sharp referred me to the develper site. Have registered, but can\'t post yet.

Any other Z-sters our there buy a 6000? Is there anything up with applications, USB support for Linux, etc.?

I bought my 6000 about two month ago and is jsut getting happier and happier. But i don;t run Linux on my desktop so I really can\'t help you with the second part of the questions.

But I start to do so much more with my Z after upgrading from 5500 to 6000: GPS navigation, web sufring on GPRS and now an external HDD (see thread in 6000 hardware forum). If now only someone can make a nice software to use the new Convergentech CF GSM/GPRS card....

well I just got mine, and am truly amazed by the screen and the fact that it\'s a fast and powerful unix system.  I\'m a computational linguist, and I\'ve been able to compile a scheme implementation on the 6000 and actually do some real work (though the tiny fonts are a drag after a while.)

lwong, what setup do you use to do GPRS browsing?  I am going to a conference in Europe this summer and I would love to be able to connect to the net via my GSM phone.  I\'m not clear on where to start.  Can this be done with the stock ROM?

I just got mine on Thursday and I have to say amazing.  I had been saving for over a year now and I have to say I think I saved my money for something worth it this time...I have been a handspring user for years with a Treo 180 currently...

All of my mchines are linux or solaris though I have not tried to hook up the usb to any of my computers...I have just used scp to copy files back and forth over my wireless network..so far I have not found a reason to uses a sync cable...

So far every application I have tried to install has worked...OpenSSH, Gaim, Terminal, kismet and IRK for my targus IR keybaord.

So far I am very impressed and happy with my Z...for me I beleive it is going to b a laptop replacement...

I bought a 6000 off of a nice gentleman here and I like every part of it except the crappy icons they made for it.  I hope to learn how to program for it so I can make a dialing program for it, like a blue box, that can save sets of tones like my calling card so I can use it at any pay phone.

I use both IR and Bluetooth to use GPRS since my cell phone supports both. For IR, just create an network connection using Dial-up (IR), use the carrier-specific setting and you should have no problem. Bluetooth offers the benefit of not needing line of site. You will need a bluetooth CF card and the Bluez package. There is a detail how-to in the \"HOW-TO\" section of this website. Both can be done using the stock SHARP ROM.
