Hi,

I am looking to buy a Zaurus. But I want to have one which could be have a sd card and a wifi connection in the same time : I want to install a debian on it.
Is that possible with the C860, or should I wait the C960 ? (The 6000x are too bigs for me )
Do you have more informations on the C960 ? When will it be available ? What will be its specifications ?

I too would like to know the answer to this question. The problem is that I couldn't find any information on new Cx60 series so i guess, that there are either no plans for more or that it is in japanese. Someone please post here with any info.

That's what all Zaurii are able to do!   Since they don't support SDIO, your only choice for wireless cards is CompactFlash, and so your SD slot is always free for a memory card.  The C960 sounds nice (if the rumours can be believed) but when it will be released is anyone's guess.

If you have inbuilt bluetooth and wifi, and ideally combine it with a usb hostbus you have a really nice system and then the cf / sd slots can be used for storage etc rather then for what is increasingly become basics like wifi.

You allude to rumours, but where are they? I can't any reference to them at all.

They are Japanese sites so you will need to use a translator.

Keep bugging our suppliers for info on new models. According to them, the rumours all come from the same source and only refer to an early prototype.

They say they have talked to their sharp contacts and are adament that they do not expect a new model for at least several months and probably year end.

Of course, they could be wrong and there could be something very hush due out tomorrow

The C960 was first written about on Hana's PDA Blog - as a wish list/hope for what it might be, there has been no official word from Sharp that the C960 is even being planned or when it might be released (or whether it will only be released for enterprise clients like the SL6000). All other sightings or links for C960 seem to refer to the Hana PDA Blog.

At the momoent the C960 is like the bigfoot - people are talking about it but nobody knows it is real!

Unless you are willing to wait till Christmas (or beyond) I get a Cxx0 model now - Summer Bonus time is next month and if Sharp hasn't released news of it by now then it probably won't come till Winter Bonus time (December)

Since they don't support SDIO, your only choice for wireless cards is CompactFlash

Maslovsky mentioned a NO here... I'm inclined to go with that answer until I hear something definitively to the contrary!

As for the C960... bluetooth's main function on a PDA is GPRS via a GSM phone (OK it can do LAN stuff but thats more WiFi's domain). So is the US GSM market big enough? (Assuming a US launch.. the Euro GSM market is certainly large enough)

On that track one would assume (having not tested the waters with the SL-Cxxx outside of Japan) the SL-C960 (if it comes about) would be a Japanese market model. The likelyhood of that depends on the market penetration of Bluetooth (thus GPRS services) and WiFi in Japan... any Japanese perspectives here?

WiFi is currently becoming the BIG thing here in Japan at the moment with lots of ISPs othering WiFi enabled ADSL modems - seeing a lot of unprotected hotspots popping up too

GSM and BlueTooth are almost nonexistant in Japan at present and with WiFi kicking off and PHS being so big here I don't see them becoming popular (but then I've never been good at predicting Japanese  styles )
