Roadmap 1.0.6
« on: June 25, 2004, 08:57:49 am »
I would like to have roadmap on X11 if possible and I think that this link is for a X11 Familiar verison but it will not install with the package manager.  This version will look to a SD or CF card for its map files.

Roadmap download site

    I am not able to break a ipk down on my system to get at the files so any help would be appreciated!

With Windows it's not possible afaik, at least I've never found a tool which'll do it - I've no idea why it's not available.

Does pdaXrom not have ar available? I presume not. Perhaps try one of the binutils packs or one of the gcc toolchain packs which must have ar in them.

The other thing to think about, is that familiar when to libc2.3 quite a while back, so if it's a new ipk then you probably won't be able to run it on pdaXrom (okay there have been suggestions as to how to do it, but it won't just be install and go) as it still uses libc2.2 iirc.

$ file zroadmap_1.0.1-1_arm.ipk
  zroadmap_1.0.1-1_arm.ipk: gzip compressed data, from Unix
$ mv zroadmap_1.0.1-1_arm.ipk zroadmap_1.0.1-1_arm.gz
$ gunzip zroadmap_1.0.1-1_arm.gz
$ file zroadmap_1.0.1-1_arm
  zroadmap_1.0.1-1_arm: POSIX tar archive

It's just a tarball, so if you rename it to have .tar.gz as the suffix you should be able to unpack it (in windows too) .

The Zaurus (prepackaged) variant of roadmap that I know of uses QPE, not X11 - you would probably just need to recompile it for the Z (and gtk or gtk2).

In the absence of ar I open ar-ipks and debs in a text editor
find the line that looks something like this
Code: [Select]
data.tar.gz/    1048796478  1000  1000  100644  878646    `delete from the beginning of the next line to the top of file
save it and rename as whatever.tar.gz
do the same for control.tar.gz if you want it too

warning
dont use notepad, use a good text editor
860 Debian EABI
Lexar Cards
WCF11 v2.5
Mittoni SD-CF Adapter

 Lardman you were right roadmap for X11 Familiar does require Libc2.3.  I was finially able to get it unpacked on my pdaXRom but it complains about the missing libraries.  Do you have a link to the work around you mentioned?  I would still like to get this working.  MAYBE SOME COULD PACKAGE THESE FOR pdaXRom?

As a side note I have been able to get GPSDRIVE running with a CF gps unit by Transplant (much the same as a Pretec).  The down side is that you cannot resize to fit the Zaurus screen and it uses picture maps which limits the area you have on any given map so you have to have many of them for a larger area to get any detail.
