SL-A300
« on: June 28, 2004, 03:48:30 pm »
Like the SL-C7/8xx series the SL-A300 is a japanese only market model.

Here in Moscow (via www.price.ru where I found my SL-C860) I notice many places sell the SL-A300 (and nobody sells the SL-5x00, my C860 was hard enough to get!) even though the machine is around 2 years old. May be Anton (Maslovsky) knows of some source to purchase the SL-5x00 here in Moscow

I was thinking of buying one as second machine but the expense (USD $400+) and the lack of expandibility (NO CF slot!!) thus without SDIO on the SD slot there is *ZERO* chance of expanding this system...

One of the (few) English articles on the SL-A300:

Nobody seems to own one... the odd Zaurus out????

Don't bother buying the A300. It's not worth it. If you really want a 5500 (BTW, what for?), I can try to find you a used one. I wouldn't pay more than $150-200 for the 5500 these days...

Actually, it appears that the A300 _does_ support SDIO...  according to this page on Sharp Japan's zaurus support page:

http://support.ezaurus.com/kyotsu/sl/cardphs_sl.asp

... the AH-S101S SD AirH" modem can be used with the A300.

The whole no-SDIO issue on the Z models appears to be a driver issue, not a wiring issue.  While this SD modem is not listed as being supported on the C series, as someone else mentioned in another post, a company is working on support for a SD WiFi card for the Cs.

I also _vaguely_ remember something about a jacket being available for the A300... maybe a CF jacket?  Not too sure about that one, though.

The A300 would be a decent machine, especially since it can be bought really cheap here in Japan, but the screen is not very good, at least not when compared to the C series.  I don't know how it fares outside, though... not sure what type of screen it is.

Thats interesting - I already had heard about the WiFi card.

Now, once those drivers become "available" who is gonna reverse-engineer the code and write our SDIO open Source drivers )

On another note just purchased an old (well one year old) SL-C700 and have installed pdaXrom last night - its great to be back with X - it makes me think once this code matures will people move away from the SHARP based ROMS?

PS. Thanks to Maslovsky for selling me the C700 (via another guy) - I am now a confirmed Zaurii owner

The price for the sl-a300n seems a littlebit high. I bought one in January for around 120 € in Japan, new not used. For the price it looks interesting for me.

There must be a jacked for the sl-a300, because:
1. on my WLAN CF stand compatible with sl-a300
2. there is a plug on the backside

Now I looking for a way to install a more usefule rom.
